    William Sanford "Bill" Nye was born on November 27, 1955 in Washington D.C. to Jacqueline Jenkins and Edwin Darby "Ned" Nye, both people who served during World War ||. He went to Lafayette Elementary and Alice Deal Junior High, and he later was accepted into the private school Sidwell Friends School on a partial scholarship and graduated during 1973.

    At Cornell University, Bill studied mechanical engineering and graduated in 1977 with a B.S. (Bachelor of Science) in mechanical engineering. I enjoy science, although identifying rocks is my weak point, and I plan to become a doctor in the future (preferably a psychiatrist, neurologist, or neurosurgeon).

    Bill Nye is best known for being the host of the educational TV program "Bill Nye the Science Guy". Its aim is to teach younger children certain topics in science, and because of the show's comedic overtones, it has become a popular teaching aid in some schools. It went from 1993 to 1998 and has a total of 100 episodes.

    Aside from hosting the famous Bill Nye the Science Guy show, he has starred in and hosted many other shows and movies. For example, he's been in the movie The Principal Takes a Holiday, BattleBots, hosted 100 Greatest Discoveries, Greatest Inventions with Bill Nye, created The Eyes of Nye, and as you can guess, many other shows and movies. Even now, he is still popular as a host; Netflix announced in August, 2016 that Bill Nye would appear in Bill Nye Saves the World which will come out in 2017.

    During the early 2000s, Bill Nye helped with the development of a small sundial (known as MarsDial) that was included in the Mars Expedition Rover missions. His father, while being in a prisoner-of-war camp in Japan, developed an interest for sun dials and timekeeping due to his experience without electricity.

    Bill Nye married Blair Tindall on February 3, 2006, but later left the relationship seven weeks later when the marriage license was declared invalid. He filed a protective order against Tindall after she came into his property and herbicide to damage his garden.

    In November 2010, Nye became the face of a new permanent exhibition at the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland, California. Bill Nye’s Climate Lab features him as the commander of the Clean Energy Space Station and invites visitors on an urgent mission to thwart climate change. Beginning with a view of Earth from space, visitors can explore air, water, and land galleries to show how climate change affects the Earth, and how to use the Sun, wind, land, and water to generate clean energy.

    On Earth Day 2015, Bill Nye met with Barak Obama to visit the Everglades National Park in Florida and discuss climate change and science education.
  • Second Book Published

    His second book, Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World, was published on November 10, 2015. It discussed how to use science to improve the environment and the challenges we face with global warming as well as raising the standard of living.

    Surprisingly, Bill Nye was a star in the 17th season of Dancing with the Stars in 2013. He danced the Cha-cha-cha, the Paso Doble, and Jazz. He was eliminated during week 3 due to an injury to his quadriceps tendon.

    Nye has been given many awards throughout his career and lifetime. In 1999, he was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Johns Hopkins University awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2008. He received an honorary doctor of science degree from Willamette University in 2011. In 2015, Rutgers University awarded him an honorary doctor of science degree and paid him $35,000 for being the keynote speaker at the ceremony. He has been given many more awards.
