    The day the neighborhood changed.
Andre' was my best friend. He was the first one on the block to get a computer. I rang the door bell and his mom answered. I wanted to play kickball with my friend. Andre' leaned out that upper left window on the second floor and said, "I playing on the computer." This was the first time I ever had heard the word, computer.
  • PAC MAN

    PAC MAN
The pinball machine was replaced by the Video game and I started riding my bike to the bowling ally to play PAC MAN. I loved playing this game and never really got the hang of other games.

We were eating breakfast in the lounge - My dad gave me 3 quarters and I played Ms. PACMAN for the first time In 1984 - along came Tetris and really this is where my video game interest stopped until my nephew taught me how to play Mindcraft.
  • Math Class

     Math Class
Our math teacher would give us 1 unit to learn how to program computers. I dreaded these units because my dsylexia would kick up and I could spend and entire period looking literally for a colon or semi-colon I missed in the code. After Junior year - I decided I did not like computers.
  • My First Word Processor

Then I went to college! I realized very quickly the benefits of having a computer and my roommate very generously allowed me to type my papers on her word processor and on
July 7, 1988 - On my 19th birthday - I received my first computer. Ironically, the very next year I was introduced to letterpress printing (which I majored in Graphic Arts.)

    My Senior Thesis was due.
In my senior year, I typed and formatted my senior theisis on this MAC. Just as I finished formatting the very last bit, the computer crashed and my floppy disc was corrupted. Thank GOD I had a printed copy. It took two more weeks to retype but I turned it in on time.

The Day I got my Vandercook Proof Press
When the world was moving forward with technology, I was acquiring Antique Letterpress equipment. I started my first company called, "The Sanity Press," which published hand bound and hand printed letterpress "tech." We published 7 books in 3 years but I could hardly make a living.

Chautauqua NY - I met Megan Smith . Interviewed a general magic
I had moved to Chautauqua NY to write a book about the institution. Working in the library, I made friends with Joan Smith, a retired elelmentary school teacher. Her daughter came to visit and we became friends. Megan invited to interview with a new company she had just started working for General MAgic. When I asked her what she wanted to hire me for her reply was, "I thought you could help invent icons. They are going to be very important someday." In that same interview, I met Steve Jobs.
  • IBM Take over of Lotus - for real

IBM Take over of Lotus - for real
The most hostile take over in Coorporate history and I was sitting at the heart of it. They bought us for the software in 1994 but we didn't feel it til 1997- This is what the news said. IBM acquires all of the outstanding shares of the Lotus Development Corporation, whose pioneering Notes software enables greater collaboration across an enterprise and whose acquisition makes IBM the world's largest software company.
  • Boston - Hired at Lotus Development

Boston - Hired at Lotus Development
I was hired at Lotus Notes Network to collect funds in Central America. This was really my first exposure to the internet. Just raw data and raw email addresses.
  • Hired at IBM as Project Manager to lead integration of IBM, Lotus and Tivioli

Hired at IBM as Project Manager to lead integration of IBM, Lotus and Tivioli
I became an IBMer and loved it. I commuted to Dallas very Tuesday on flight 11 or flight 175 out of Boston Logan Airport. I led 6 distinct teams internationally and coordinated, politiced and helped to rewrite the backend code of Intergrated IBM LOTUS AND TIVOLI software group. On April 27, 2001 - The project was complete. This was the same day I had calculated 4 years earlier.
  • Retired from IBM and moved to California.

Retired from IBM and moved to California.
I retired from IBM because the big project was over. Hopped in my car and drove cross country to Los Angeles to live near friends and family. Little did I know, I would be moving back in time with technology.

BACK IN TIME - Lawndale High School as head of Visual Art Department
This was my inbox that first day of school. The school's internet did not work and we were told to send paper messages to each other. Everyday I would get 20+ pieces of paper, and I was overwhelmed. I did not know how to handle going backwards. For all my twenties, all I had to do was press a button and delete or respond. Life in education seemed so much harder. I advocated for computers to teach computer design and receive 14 by the end of my second year.
  • HIRED AT JANE ADDAMS MIDDLE SCHOOL

HIRED AT JANE ADDAMS MIDDLE SCHOOL
I was hired at Jane Addams Middle School and never looked back. This little Gem of a school had a principal all about technology. Withing 3 years we had 4 portable mac labs. Today we have 7. We teach robotics, 1/3 of the staff has a great deal over tech used and more importantly, there is support for digital learning.
