    The Industrial Revolution was a period during which agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America became industrial and urban. Prior to the Industrial Revolution manufacturing was done at home. People had to use hand tools or basic machines. Industrialization marked a shift to power, factories and mass production. The iron and textile industries, and the development of the steam engine, played important roles in the Industrial Revolution.

    In 1770 Captain James Cook charted the east coast of Australia and claimed it for Britain. The new outpost was put to use as a potential colony. In 1770 more than 50 ships made land on Australia. After Captain James Cook claimed the east coast he named it New South Wales.

    The American Revolution is also known as the American Revolutionary War and the U.S War of Independence. The conflict began after growing tensions between Great Britain's 13 North American colonies and the colonial government arose. A civil war between British troops and colonial militiamen in Lexington and Concord started in April 1775, and next summer, the rebels were waging a full-scale war for their independence.

    The First Fleet contained 11 ships that left Portsmouth in 1787 carrying 1480 men, women and children. Although most convicts on board were british there was also African, French and American convicts. After a three month trip the First Fleet arrived at botany bay on the 24th January 1788. When the Aboriginal people first met the british the confrontation was uneasy because the Aboriginals had been in isolation for 40,000 years.

    The French Revolution began 1789 and ended in the late 1790s. The french citizens raised up against their countries century old political landscape. the French Revolution was influenced by Enlightenment ideals,the concepts of sovereignty and inalienable rights. Even though it failed to achieve its goals and turned into a bloodbath, the movement played a critical role in shaping modern nations.

    In 1978, Thomas Edison began serious research into creating a practical incandescent lamp. On the 14th october 1978 Thomas Edison filled his first patent application “improvement in electric lights” but he continued to test other types of metal filaments to improve design. Thomas Edison filed another patent on the 4th november 1979 and several months after the patent Thomas Edison and his team created a carbonized lamp that could last over 1200 hours.

    The federation of Australia was on the 1st of january 1901. Australia became an independent nation after the british parliament passed a legislation allowing the six Australian colonies to govern themselves. Before 1901 Australia was 6 british governed colonies partly self- governed. In 1901 Australia's two territories didn’t exist. The Northern Territory was a part of South Australia and the ACT was created at a later date.

    On the 17th december 1903 the wright brothers were able to fly a heavier-than-air aircraft for 120 feet (36 meters). They successfully took off 4 times managing to stay airborne for 12 seconds. In 1901 they tested almost 200 wing and airframe designs. These tests paid off and they flew hundreds of successful flights, the longest one lasting for 39 minutes. In 1901 the designed a 12 horsepower engine and attached it to their plane. Then at 10:35 am the first powered flight took to the skies.

    Titanic crashes into iceberg
    The titanic was designed by William Pirrie and was 883 feet (269 meters) long. Its hull was divided into 16 watertight compartments and was able to carry 2,200 passengers and crew. on the 14th of April 1912 just before midnight the RMS titanic failed to change course away from an iceberg. The iceberg ruptured the titanic's hull and caused the ship to begin to sink. The shortage of lifeboats and emergency procedures meant more than 1,500 people went down with the sinking ship.

    The great war (also known as world war 1) began in 1914 and lasted till 1918 after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. In the great war the central powers were fighting against the allied powers. Due to new military technologies world war 1 saw mass destruction and left more than 16 million soldiers and civilians dead. In the end the allied powers claimed victory.
