Battle of Fort Sumter
The Battle of Fort Sumter was the beginning war of the Civil War. The fort was in South Carolina which was part of the Union. The battle lasted for 34 hours before the Union surrendered. The cause of the war was the south leaving the Union. The effect it had was it caused a full blown war. -
Second Battle of Bull Run
This battle was much larger than the first battle.This battle was also another victory for the Confederates. The Confederate Army of Northern Virginie was lead by General Robert E. Lee. The cause of this battle was General John Pope threatened teh town General Robert E. Lee was in. The effect it gave the Confederates another victory. -
Battle of Gettysburg
This battle is considered the most important engagment. General Robert E. Lee marched his army over into Pennsylvania and went into battle with the Unions Army. MAny lives were lost on the rebels. This battle the move the "Pickett's Charge" was created. The cause of this battle was just another battle between North and South. The effect it caused destruction. -
Battle of the Wilderness
This battle was fought in the Wilderness refgion of Virginia. The Union was crossing into the wilderness to battle the Confederates. They wanted to clear out of the Wilderness before attacking, but the Conderate Army ambushed the Union. The cause of this war was just to battle because of the South leaving. The effect was that the South may have many losses but they can't be defeated. -
Battle of Spotsylvania
This battle was apart of the Battle of the Wilderness. The Union "escaped" the Confederate army by running to Spotsylvania Courthouse. The Confedrate anticipated this move and the battle moved there. The cuase of this battle was just to battle the South and get them to return. The effect is it shows that the South was more skilled in surviving the wilderness. -
Battle of Palmito Ranch
This battle was fought an won by the Confederates in Texas. In this battle all race was battling (Native Americans, African Americans, etc.). The Union was trying to get to Palmito Ranch, but wsa cut off by the Confederate Army. The cause of this battle was to get the South to return. The effect is it showed the North the South may not hae all the things they have, but the South can survive a battle.
