  • Battle of Santa Rosa Island

    Battle of Santa Rosa Island
    This was the first major battle in the civil war. General Richard Anderson lead 1200 men across the mainland in two small streamers. This was a very seroius attack by the Confederrates on Fort Pickens. Howeverr the fort remained in the U.S. hands, and deprived the Confederates of possibly the best port on the Gulf. Sothern losses werre 18 killed, 39 wounded, and 30 catured. Union losses were 14 dead, 29 wouned and 24 captured.
  • Battle of Hamptons Road

    Battle of Hamptons Road
    The Battle of Hamptons Road was also know as the Battle of the Ironclads.The Merrimac attacked the fleet becuase the Monitor was going to attack Richmond.This was fought on March 8-9, 1862 near Haptons Road, Virginia and was the most famous naval Battle.The winner was inconclusive because both the Confederates and Federals declared victory.The fighting winner was the Monitor because they defended Minnesota successfully.The Merrimac won back the Hampton Roads which delayed the attack on Richmond.
  • Battle of Chattanooga

    Battle of Chattanooga
    This battle followed the Battle of Chickamauga. After the devasting loss of it, General Williams Rosecrans retreated to Chattanooga. It was one of the most dramatic turnabouts in American military history. Union possession of Chattanooga opened up deep South for a Union invasion. Then the Sherrman's Atlanta Campaign was set for the following spring.
  • Battle of Nashville

    Battle of Nashville
    General John Bell Hood led the army of Tennessee north towards Nashville. The attack was made and the Unions held down but the attack on the Confederates didn't start until afternoon when there was a charge commerce on Montgomerry Hill. Hood set up a main line of resistance and the Unions started moving towards the confederates line. There was a pursuit that went on for ten days. Hood eventually retreated to Tupelo and resigned his command.
