Australian Colonies

  • First Fleet

    The Britsh set up the first penal colony in Botany Bay to house the convicts from England. This colony because the first colony in NSW
  • Van Diemen's Land

    It was the first official settlement that was established. It became a place of secondary punishment for convicts.
  • The British Settlement

    The Britsh government claimed the whole new holland they named it Western Australia.
  • The Six Colonies

    In 1862 Queensland's western boundary, north of latitude 26°south, was moved further west to give it access to a possible northern port. In 1863 the area of New South Wales north of South Australia was added to South Australia.
  • South Australia

    Then South Australia was created, it was taken from the southern part of NSW
  • European Settlement

    North Australia was created with its main settlement of Port Curtis. But then it failed after six months and then the new colony was reincorporated into NSW.
  • Victoria

    The area became a colony of Victoria that was separated with NSW, where the border was mostly along the Murray River.
  • Queensland

    Queensland was created by the Eastern South Australian border and separating it from NSW.
  • The Western Border

    South Australia gained the New South Wales ‘panhandle’ when the western border was continued to the West Australian border.
