The Battle of Horseshoe Bend
In Dadeville Alabama on March 27, 1814 the United States and Indian allies defeated the Creek Indian tribe. The latter opposed American expansion. -
The Battle of New Orleans
The Battle of New Orleans took place 5 miles South of New Orleans on January 18, 1815 with General Andrew Jackson in Command. The British fought against Jackson's army and the winner of the battle was the latter. -
The Election of 1824
The major opposing candidates in this election were John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson. This election took place in Washington DC on October 26, 1824. Adams and Jackson tied so Henry Clay (Speaker of the House) decided the president. Adams appointed Clay leading to the idea of the election being corrupt. -
The Election of 1828
This took place in Washington DC on October 10, 1828. The opposing candidates were Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams. Jackson finally overtook Adams for the presidency. -
The Indian Removal Act
This act was signed by President Jackson on May 28, 1830 to grant unsettled land in the West in exchange for the relocation of Indian land in the state borders. -
The Nullification Crisis
In the United States in 1832 when the federal government passed the Acts of 1828 and 1832 South Carolina tried to nullify the acts. The tariffs these acts were imposing was hurting the South's economy. -
The Bank War
In the United States on February 19, 1832, President Jackson vetoed the bill to renew the charter for the Second Bank of the United states. He claimed it was unconstitutional and a violation of the liberties of the people. -
Worcester vs. Georgia
On February 20, 1832 in the United States Samuel A. Worcester and all Non-Native Americans were persecuted by the state of Georgia because of intercourse between the citizens and the Cherokee Nation. This was seen by the federal government as unconstitutional. -
The Trail of Tears
In 1839 in the Southeastern United states the Cherokee Nation was forced to give up their land and move to present day Oklahoma as a result of Jackson's Indian removal policy. Many died on the trip and not many survived once they reached their destination.
