    The battles of Lexington and Concord started off the Revolutionary War. This started because of tension between the 13 colonies. On April 18, 1775, hundreds of British soldiers marched from Boston to Concord. Lexington started fight and the British were quickly defeated. Many more battles were to follow this one.

This meant that they were no longer under British rule. The Declaration was published by Thomas Jefferson and signed by 58 delegates to the Continental Congress.

    This battle was fought in mid December in the freezing cold temperatures and bad conditions. General George Washington and his army crossed Delaware on Christmas Day. Over the next 10 days, the men won two very important battles of the American Revolution. A week after these two battles, General George Washington and his men marched through the night to capture Princeton on January 3rd.

    The Continental Army was led by General George Washington. He and his men settled at the camp in Philadelphia in the middle of December. They stayed 22 miles away from the British army so that when they were ready to attack, they could go right away. This was considered an asymmetrical approach because the British didn't try and get closer to the colonists.

    During this war, the Americans suffered their worst defeat of the Revolution to British Lieutenant Sir Henry Clinton when Major General Benjamin Lincoln surrendered. Lieutenant Clinton had 10,000 soldiers at Charleston. With this victory, the British captured more than 3,000 Patriots and a great number of equipment.. At the time of this defeat, South Carolina was a very divided colony so the war only got worse after General Lincoln's surrender.

    This battle was fought in Yorktown. It was George Washington and the colonists against the British army. George and his men ended up victorious in this battle. Because of this, the British were driven out of the American colonies.
