    French and Indian War
    A war between the French and British, not the French and the Indians. They fought over land and were trying to take it from each other. In the end, the British won.

    A document issued after the French and Indian war. It states that the French couldn't expand more than a certain area and that it was the British land.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    An act put upon the colonists to make more money after the French and Indian war. It put an extra tax on anything with sugar and the colonists were very upset.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    An event when multiple colonists were killed by the British. Nobody knows exactly what happened but people say the colonists were taunting and harassing the British soldiers and others say the British did is because they disliked the colonists.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Put a tax on any tea bought in the colonies. The colonists were very angry with this and it plays a part in the Boston Tea Party.

    An event where the Sons of Liberty rushed on a boat full of tea and threw it all off. They dressed up as natives and threw all the tea into the ocean but didn't harm anything else.
  • First Continental Congress

    An event where 12 of the 13 colonies met up in Philadelphia. They met to talk about the acts and the Britain.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    This time they started to move towards independence. This later cam true but during this meeting they were considering it.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    This act was the last straw for the colonies after the Boston Tea Party. It made it so the harbor was closed till the tea was paid off and so that crimes would be judged in Britain rather than the Colonies.

    The very first battle of the American Revolution. It started it and began the large war. The Americans surprised attacked the British and Hessians and got there first victory.

    He was a great leader and the colonists probably couldn't have won the war without him. He was a great strategic general and very smart. He soon later became the first president of the United States.
  • Declaration of Indepence

    Declaration of Indepence
    A document from the colonists declaring independence and separating from the British. What declared that they aren't going to stand for the tax and don't want to be with the British.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense
    A document by Thomas Paine, who's favoring the 13 colonies. He writes it to persuade people to join the war and saying it's Common Sense that we need to split up with Britain.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle of Trenton
    A small battle that changed the war. The 13 colonies needed a win and this was there chance. They won and they then realized they had a chance in the war. Washington lead his troops into battle on the night of Christmas and they surprised the hessian.
  • Thomas Jefferson

    Thomas Jefferson
    The author of the Declaration of Independence. He was also one of the founding fathers of the country.
  • Washing Crossing the Delaware

    Washing Crossing the Delaware
    This was right before the Battle of Trenton when they were travelling there. It was very cold and icy as they were crossing. They carried horses, men, and artillery.
  • Alexander Hamilton

    Alexander Hamilton
    One of the founding fathers of the country and helped in the war. Washington promoted him to Lieutenant Colonel because of his leadership skills and writing talent.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge
    A six month encampment a few miles from Philadelphia. Although it wasn't a battle it was still rough for the soldiers. They didn't have enough supplies and it was very hard.
  • Siege of Yorktown

    Siege of Yorktown
    The last major battle of the revolutionary war. It wasn't a huge victory and they had a huge celebration. It was more like they were both done and didn't want to fight anymore after the fight even though the 13 colonies won.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    A treaty that came a few years after the last battle of the revolutionary war. It ended the war and they were at peace again.
