  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The British and the French are traditional enemies. They fought over land and control over Native American trade routes. They wanted control over the Ohio River Valley because of how much money the Beaver Pelts can bring. It lasted 7 years. The French lost their land and the war.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    It replaced the Sugar Act and added Direct Taxes paid seperate from the item. The Americans felt their rights were violated. After this act is made Sam Adams organized the Sons of Liberty. The Americans boycotted made Non-Importation Agreements. They started using violent and illegal methods to try and stop being taxed.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    This act replaced the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act only taxed the printed goods such as newspapers, dice, playing cards, ect. The Townshend Acts go further on taxing glass, paint, tea, ect. Ot was unacceptable to Americans and the money was being used to finace troops in in the colonies. So the Americans tryed to repeal it but it took four years to do so.
  • Revolutionary Boston

    During the time period of this the Boston Massacre happens in 1770 and in 1773 the British East India Company was in danger of banktrupcy so the King grants them a monopoly so no one else can sell tea. The Boston Tea Party caused $1-3 million in damage. So in turn the King made the Intolerable (coercive) Acts.
  • Push for Independence

    Push for Independence
    The Americans responded to the Intolerable Acts by asking what their right were and how they were going to defend them. They boycotted and Non-Importations. It also made it harder for the Americans to smuggle in goods because the British kept checking their ships and arresting them.
  • 2nd Continential Congress

    2nd Continential Congress
    It was the Radicals vs. Moderates and some new faces appeared like Franklin, Hancock, Jefferson showed up to this event. The issue was either they reconcile with the British or they go for Independence. They nominated George Washington for army. They wanted to know their rights and the King thought they were rebelling.
  • Paines' "Common Sense"

    Paines' "Common Sense"
    It was something that Thomas Paine wrote in such simple terms that is was widely read and very popular. 75% of Americans either read or heard it from others reading it to them because they couldnt read. It was basically about how America should be able to break free from the British because it was a bad relationship between them.
