  • Native Americans

    Native Americans
    The Native Americans had many traditions that they followed. Some of the traditions consisted of Oral literature: epic narratives, creation myths, stories, poems, songs. The natives used their different stories to teach others about the natural world, They cared a lot about what was going on around them especially with nature and animals. They didn't want anything being harmed so they took care of others.
  • Puritanism

    Puritanism
    The goal of this was to purify the England church. They wanted to purify it by using the worship of God. They left England so that they could go find a way to colonize the new world. They kept track of everything they were doing by using journals and writing journal entries.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend acts were many laws that were passed by the British government on the American colonies in the 1700s. They took away many freedoms of the colonist and placed new taxes on things such as paper paint lead glass and tea. This eventually resulted in the Boston massacre of 1770. The British continued to try to text the colonist even though they weren’t providing representation in Parliament.
  • Romanticism

    Romanticism
    Romanticism was a very artistic movement. It used literacy and music to happen. Romanticism started in Europe at the end of the 18th century. The artist during this time was known as William Blake and Francisco Goya. There were artworks known as the desperate Man and 3 May 1808.
  • The American Renaissance

    The American Renaissance
    This time period is also well known as the "Romantic Period". It is accepted to be the greatest period of American Literature. Many amazing well-known writers appear during this time period such as "Ralph Waldo Emerson" and "Henry David Thoreau". There is poetry written by "Henry Wadsworth Longfellow" and short stories written by "Poe". "Poe" is a very big leader and plays a huge roll in this time period.
  • Transcendentalism

    Transcendentalism
    Transcendentalism was a social movement that formed in New England around 1836. The reason for this movement was due to rationalism and it was influenced by romanticism. It is a protest against the general state of spiritually. It’s organizations were responsible for ruining the goodness of people. I reflected on nature and it was common to all people.
  • The Cask of Amontillado

    The Cask of Amontillado
    This is a short story written by Edgar Allen Poe. It was published in November of 1846. This story is set in an Italian city. It's about a man named Montresor who thinks he has been mistreated and is trying to get revenge back on Fortunato. He wants to get revenge without putting himself in danger. Montresor plans this event to set up Fortunato. He tricked him and ended up successfully building up a wall around him and wrote the phrase "May he rest in peace."
  • The Scarlet Letter

    The Scarlet Letter
    The story is about Hester Prynne and the sin she committed. Hester committed the sin of adultery which is why she got the letter A on her body as a punishment for her affair with Arthur Dimmesdale who is also the town's minister. During this time Hester was married to Roger Chillingworth. At the end of the novel, Harthorne says to “be true, be true, be true “. What he means by this is that Hester should’ve been honest so she wouldn’t have to have gone through the guilt that she did.

    A Pair of Silk Stockings
    A Pair of Silk Stockings is all about a woman who is trying to live life with her family but also deal with personal things. The main character in this story is Mrs. Sommers who is a wife as well as a mother. Unfortunately, her family is very poor. She goes out to the store to buy her children clothes but then ends up treating herself. She loves her family and wants to give them everything in the world but she also finds time for herself.
  • Lost Generation

    Lost Generation
    The last generations involve the African-American culture in Harlem. The style differentiated within poetry rhythms in music and different uses of slang. These influences changed due to reactions to World War I and different things that were happening. The style and rhythm changed.
  • Realism

    Realism
    Realism was a movement that began in the 1840s after the 1848 revolution. Realism begins in France and it had taken over French literature. The overall goal of realism was to Petray typical people and their problems as truthfully as they could. It had gone against Romanticism.
  • Modernism

    Modernism
    Modernism is Second to the American renaissance when it comes to most influential and important. The modern period time consists of many writers and poets that have impacted us greatly such as Robert Frost, William Carlos Williams and even Carl Sandburg. It contains major events like the jazz age and the Harlem Renaissance. The writers during this period were influenced by tragic events such as WW1 and the Great Depression.
  • Postmodernism

    Postmodernism
    During postmodernism, literature was being influenced by language and technology and studies that were done of media. It talks about how nothing is original and nothing has its own meaning everything is just copies of others. They were a blend of fiction and nonfiction that gave us the appearance of the work.
  • Beat Generation

    Beat Generation
    The Beat generation took place from the 1950s to 1965. It consisted of a small group of authors who is literature influence the American culture after World War two took place. They were against the prudery of their parent's generation and defied modest America. They celebrated their creativity.
  • WW1

    WW1
    The World War also known as the Great War lasted from July 28, 1914, to November 11, 1918, it was. It was one of the largest wars in history and also one of the deadliest. There’s an estimate of 9 million combatants and 7 million civilians that died with the result of the war. Many genocides happened due to the war which caused another 50 to 100,000,000 deaths. This word took a lot of people and it was only the beginning.
  • The Great Migration

    The Great Migration was known as the Great Northward Migration or the Black Migration. The Migration was the movement of six million African Americans. This took place between 1916 and 1970. The cause of the migration was because the black southerners wanted to escape segregation. These African Americans began to make themselves a place in this world of their own and to create a black urban culture.

    The Great Gatsby
    The Great Gatsby is a book written in 1925 by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The story takes place in West and East Egg. It is about a guy named Jay Gatsby who is a millionaire. He lives on Long Island in a large mansion that sits across from Carraway's home. After Carraway was invited to a party over at Gatsby's mansion he begins to get curious about him. Gatsby is living his life trying to make it back to his long lost love Daisy after five years. It's about the thwarted love between Daisy and Gatsby
  • Of Mice and Men

    Of Mice and Men
    Of Mice and Men is a novel written by John Steinbeck and it was published in 1937. The story is about two workers by the names of George Milton and Lennie Small. George was a very intelligent man. He didn't always have his facts right but he knew a lot. Lennie was a big, strong man and he mentally disabled. He didn't know how to do much without George by his side. Lennie accidentally made a big mistake and the others try to hurt Lennie. George made the choice to kill Lennie for the right reason.

    World war Two was the second global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. The majority of the countries of the world formed to opposing military alliances. During this time Franklin D Roosevelt and Harry S Truman were the presidents. It included genocide bombings and maskers many died from starvation and disease. Japan and to dominate Asia and the Pacific was at war with China. It began with the invasion of Poland done by Germany.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    The attack on Pearl Harbor was a major surprise to everyone who was in attendance. It was done by the Japanese Navy air service onto the United States. It took place at the Naval base located at Pearl Harbor In Honolulu Hawaii. The Pearl Harbour Attack was a huge event that took place. So many people were killed such as the people working that day and the nurses and civilians. There is a memorial still located there today to honor those who were killed that day.

    The Catcher in the Rye is placed around the 1950s. It is a story narrated by a man named Holden Caufield. Holden makes it clear to us that he is being treated in a mental hospital while he is telling a story. Holden talks a lot about his struggles with growing up and taking the innocence of children. Holden often remittances his brother who passed away and I think that he’s trying to get A crossed his feelings of how it feels to grow up and what’s being taken away from you.

    Cotton Mathers Account of the Witch Trials
    They wrote diaries that talked about the different connections that they felt between their lives and God. They used a very basic, subtle style of writing which changed the effect of the diaries. These people saw religion as personal experience and behavior. They were strong believers of sin and had a way of doing it.
  • Civil Rights Act

    Civil Rights Act
    The civil rights act started on July 2, 1964. The act is a landmark of civil rights and labor law in the United States. It is a law that’s based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. It prohibits an unequal way of voting and voter registration requirements. It also controls races in schools, jobs and in public.
  • "After Auschwitz"

    "After Auschwitz"
    After Auschwitz is a poem written by Anne Sexton in January 1973. This poem is meant to express her anger towards what happened with the Nazis regime. It describes how she felt after seeing the camps. She talks about how the Nazis treated their enemies. They were operated by the Third Reich in Polish areas annexed by Nazi Germany during World War II. Anne wanted to talk about the lives that were taken by the death camps and how much of a tragedy this time was.
  • 9/11 Attack

    9/11 Attack
    There are multiple attacks that took place on September 11. There were four in total and 2977 victims and 19 hijackers and in total there were 2996 deaths. This tragic event took place on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Later they found out that the attack was done by the Islamic terrorist group Al Qaeda against the United States.
