    French and Indian war
    This was a war between Great Britain and France. It was to determine who would control the land of North America. After seven years of fighting the British won and gained land east of the Mississippi River.

    Americans went onto British ships and dumped off all of their tea into the water. They did this because they were frustrated with Great Britain for imposing taxation without representation.

    12 of the 13 colonies sent delegates to a Continental Congress meeting. They acted as a governing body at that time. They met in Philadelphia and discussed the Parliament's Coercive Acts.

    The thirteen colonies fought Great Britain in America. The colonies wanted their independence from Great Britain because they didn't feel they were given freedoms they should have.

    The Article of Confederation was a document written by the original 13 colonies that was their first constitution. It was written November 15, 1777 but wasn't ratified until March 1, 1781. The Articles of Confederation only lasted a little bit before it failed and they wrote the Constitution.

    This document is the document that ended the revolutionary war. This was signed by representatives of King George and representatives of the United states. This also recognized the United States independence.

    The constitution was written to give order and rules to the United States. This was written after the Articles of Confederation which did not work. Also the constitution was written on September 17th 1787 but wasn't ratified until later.

    On April 4th, 1789, George Washington was elected president of the United States. He was voted as president by the members of congress rather than by the people. Although he helped design the White House he did not live in it.

    The Bill of rights were a list of 10 rights that all citizens of the U.S. citizens should have. They were not originally on the Constitution but were added later. They were added so that some of the states would ratify the Constitution.

    The United States paid around $15 million for about 827,000 square miles of land. This land came from France and was all west of the Mississippi River.

    Francis Scott Key wrote the lyrics to the star spangled banner while watching the British attack on Fort McHenry during the war of 1812. He was inspired by the fact that the fort lasted through the day long attack.

    The Industrial revolution went from 1760 to 1840. During that time northeast United States grew. During this time a lot of new inventions were created which helped produce products faster, such as cotton.

    In 1860 Abraham Lincoln faced Douglas, representative of the divided democrats, in the race for president. Lincoln won as the representative of the National Union Party.

The Union believed that slavery should be abolished while the Confederates thought it should stay. The south decided they would try to leave the United States of America and form their own country.

    The 13th amendment was added to the constitution to abolish slavery in the United States. In was passed by the senate in April of 1864 and then passed by the House of Representatives in January of 1865.

    The civil war was a war between the Union and the Confederates over slavery. Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse, so the confederates had to remain with America and abolish slavery.

    When the Republicans became quiet about racial equality and blacks' rights in the south the federal troops were removed and the Republican government collapsed. With that, the reconstruction period also collapsed and ended.
