    The Civil War

    A war fought for four years to determine the survival of the U.S. as it defeated the bid for independence by the breakaway Confederate States of America. It was between the U.S and 11 other states such as the south, union states, and confederate states.
  • Homestead Act

    This act helped Western migration by providing settlers 160 acres of public land. In exchange, the settlers would pay a small filing fee and were required to complete five years of continuous residence before getting ownership of the land.
  • Pacific Railway Act

    This act was singed by President Abraham Lincoln. The act provided Federal government support for the building of the railway, The railway was completed by May 10, 1869.
