    The French and Indian War began with conflict between France and England. The war ended with Britain taking over more territorial area in America. This led Britain to be drained economically and Britain put more taxes on Americans.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Kicked French out of the new world. England has been through a lot of wars. It begins to tax people to pay off war debt.
  • Currency Act

    English colonies can no longer use their own currency. They must instead use British money.

    This was tax directed toward Americans from Britain. Everything was taxed, furniture, clothing, and tea.

    British soldiers opened fire on American colonists. The British soldiers were being harassed by a mob in Boston. The British soldiers were placed in America to enforce the taxes that Parliament had placed. This made the tension between the 13 colonies and Britain.

    The Boston Tea Party was a political protest against British Parliament imposing high taxes. The Boston Tea Party ended with 342 chests of tea being dumped into the ocean on the harbor of Boston.

    A committee of five got together and came up with ideas for the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence because of his great penmanship. The Declaration of Independence was to be free of British rule.

    George Washington took the oath to be the first president of America.
  • Eli Whitney invention of the cotton gin

    Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. This helped settlers move to the south to grow more cotton. Slavery was in more demand when the cotton gin was invented. The northern states needed cotton and the southern states needed more slaves to work on the plantations.
  • John Adams was elected the 2nd president

    John Adams was elected the 2nd president. He was President George Washington's vice president when he was in office. He led the movement towards independence.
