    Current Status of Community Day School Alternative Education
    A second alternative education school operates as a community day school and independent study school under what is referred to as educational options. This is also where students are alternatively placed in lieu of expulsion. The current teaching and learning environment for all of these programs has not changed much in the last decade, if not longer, and has not implemented any portion of our Scholar+ program other than in some cases for substitution.

    Current Status of Continuation School Alternative Education
    PUHSD currently has one continuation high school which doesn't meet student needs both from the bell schedule or the teaching and learning perspective. Students attend 7 hours a day, 6 periods a day which is not a continuation model. They are only able to make up credits because of the trimester schedule and/or in a single period credit recovery class where they can move through courses in the A+ program. In short, this school has not advanced much since being a packet work school 7 years ago.

    Begin to review data for continuation high school students, independent study students, alternatively placed in lieu of expulsion students and mandatorily expelled community day school students.

    The team of teachers and administrators would write a proposal that includes the use of personalized learning and the technology to allow for flipped, blended and online learning to meet the unique needs of our alternative education students.
  • Present Data to Alternative Education Committee

    Present Data to Alternative Education Committee
    Present alternative education data to a committee of stakeholders and begin the discussion on how to improve learning outcomes, the rate of retention and degree completion for these students. This will begin to gather buy-in for implementing change in moving to personalized learning.
