The King refused to anger the message and got angry,soon troops were attacking boston. The British troops heard the Patriots were hiding gun powder in Concord. On the way the Patriots attakced multiple times and the British retreated.The fight between the British and the Americans turned lasted for 7 years.

    The Second Continental Congress happened Philedalphia. though. He suggested that Congress create a “continental army” made up of troops from all the colonies, and he nominated George Washington to lead the army.

    A fort at the top of Breed's Hill was created by an army of colonists were led by Irael Putman.British general William Howe ordered an immediate attack. On the third try the colonists ran out of gun powder and fled. More than 1,000 British troops were killed or wounded, and five hundred American colonists were killed and injured,this was soon war.

    George Washington made an army of untrained colonists .They were runnin out of gun powder with only 36 barrels left he started a rumour that he had 1,800 barrels of gunpowder.The British stayed away.The colonists eventually got more gun powder and heavy weapons from Ticonderoga along with canons and lead for future bullets. So the British fled and left boston to Canada on Ships.

    Thomas Jefferson was chosen to write the Declaration of Independance This stated that the colonists were no longer under the rule of Britan and had freedom,and they wanted to be independent.It was signed by 13 representatives from each colony.
    On July 4th, the delegates signed the letter, knowing if they lost the war, they would all be hanged.

    The Americans and British Armies met in Brooklyn, New York for a battle. The Americans were confident, but their lack of experience caused them to retreat against the British (who had a lot of training and greater number of soldiers). In 2 days of fighting the British lost 377 men while the Americans lost 1407.

    Washington and his men ambush the British troops in Trenton on the morning of Christmas. When they reached Trenton, the Hessians were asleep. Since they were caught by surprise, they surrendered. Washington captured 868 prisoners without any of his troops dying.
  • Saratoga

    General Burgoyne was on his way to meet General Howe , and on his way, decided to attack Saratoga Springs, despite being outnumbered. Round after round, the Americans held out and eventually, Burgoyne accepted defeat. After this, The Spanish and French decided to help the Americans by becoming allies. Lafayette and Freidrich von Steuben were key members in helping the American Army.Saratoga Springs was the first hope for the Americans.

    The ratification of the Articles of Confederation took several years Virginia was the first state to sign it in 1777.The Articles of Confederation needed ratification (approval) from all 13 states .Finally on March 1, 1781 it was approved after Marylands denial.

    The French and Americans set a trap for Cornwallis and his troops in Yorktown. The French sent 8,000 troops and 20 warships to join Washingtons Army. The French warships arrived just in time to seal off the entrance to Chesapeak Bay. Thus Cornwallis was cut off from the British Navy.

    The representatives of the US and Britain signed a peace treaty in Paris,which included 3 major agreements: the first being that the US would be recognized as an independent nation by Britain. The second was that Britain would give up its claims to all lands between teh Atlantic Coast and the Mississippi River. The third part was that the US would return all the rights and land to the Loyalists.

    After the war there was a huge money shortage and who didnt pay taxes got thrown in jail,which was a problem for farmers.Daniel Shay got arrested because of that So Shay decided action should be taken so he took a miltia and attacked a arsenal and burnt down a courthhouse and they began to rebel.Soon it was called Shays Rebellion.

    Instead of just selling New Orelands, they sold all of Louisiana to USA for 15 million dollars. Thomas Jefferson wanted to buy New Orelands(which was part of lousiana) so that the farmers of USA could use the missisipi river for trade. Although it was governed by the french,they said that they didnt need it anymore because they lost all their slaves during the haitian revolution.

    The southerns applied for Missouri to become a slave state.The southerns would have more states than the northeners, which doesnt make it equal.It also meant more representatives for slave states.

    Andrew Jackson was ordered not to invade Florida, but he invaded all of Florida .Spain and USA were didnt want war, so Spain sold Florida for 5 million dollars to USA.

    The President jackson wanted to remove all Native Americans so they made a law which is called the Indian Removal Act, that forced all Native Americans to move across the Missisipi river,which was west. Some tribes moved without agrueing but tribes like Sac&Fox fought caused a war.

    Britain and the U.S had claim of the Orgeon,but the US wanted all of it but at the same time they did not want to start war.They made a treaty that US would get the bottom half and British would getthe top which is Canada.

    Mexicans fired at American troops,so Congress declared war.The Mexicans gave up on the war since they werent strong enough,so they gave utah,arizona,california,nevada and new mexico to the Americans for 15 million,and California for 10 million,the Rio Grande became the new border between states.

    The Wilmot Proviso said slavery would not be allowed in the Mexican Cession southeeners were upset because they felt they should be able to take their slaves also known as "property" anywhere.

    The fugititive slave law upset northeners beacuse they didn't support slavery and the law said that all runaway slave must be returned to their masters,some Northerners assisted fugitive slaves.

    Abraham Lincoln was elected president,the southerners were upset with this because Lincoln would abolish slavery.If he abolished slavery then they would not have there "property" or people to work on the farms.

    The civil war began when the North and the South began having problems because the South wanted slavery because slaves help them with many things such as farming,while the north didnt want slavery at all,they thought it was just evil.The reasons that the civil war happened was because they couldnt think of a comprise,and soon the 11 south states decided they wanted to leave the union.It was 24 states against 11 states,but it wasnt easy. The end of the war was in 1865,and slavery was abolished
