American Independence

  • The Sugar Act

    This was when the British Parliament had started taxing sugar because they knew it was used alot due to the Triangle Trade. The British was taxing a few different items, all in the hope of earning back money lost due to the war.
  • The Stamp Act

    This was a tax on almost every piece of paper bought including playing cards, legal documents, newspapers ad licenses. The Americans began to believe that this was them being overtaxed which led to one of the many revolts.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A group of men calling themselves the "Sons of Liberty" went to the Boston Harbor. The men were dressed as Mohawk Indians. They boarded three British ships and dumped forty-five tons of tea into the Boston Harbor. This had caused the British to shut down the harbors.
  • Congress Declares Independence

    Congress declares independence as the British fleet and army arrive at New York. This is what got everything going and done.
  • Declaration Accepted

    The declaration is adopted and goes into effect. This is what finally set up our laws and brought us freedom.
  • Declaration copies sent to New Jersey and Delaware

    John Hancock dispatches the first copies of the Declaration of Independence to the legislatures of New Jersey and Delaware.
  • Declarations sent to the States

    Congress orders that signed copies of the Declaration of Independence printed by Mary Katherine Goddard of Baltimore be sent to the states.
