    Europe - The Aspiration of Exploring the World

    After renaissance, the curiosity and other motivations drove Europeans onto huge explorations. There were many sailors and merchants who went on an unknown journey to find a new route.Things significantly changed after the discovery of the new continent. Europeans dominated the new world and made more connection with it. However, they also fought with the Natives and took their land to establish new empires for their own countries.

    Americas - Native Societies in the Americas

    Native Americans developed their own culture, language, and societies. Most of the kingdoms and tribes collapse either because they were defeated by others, natural disasters, or Europeans conquered them. During this time period, the strong native empires encountered Europeans' invasion. Some of them survived longer while some of them was being destroyed mercilessly.

    America - New Colonies Established

    As more and more countries are sending colonies to the new found land, the colonies formed a independent world in the Americas. They had their own governments under the supervision of the Kings and Monarchs, they were independent. Some of the colonies fought for their rights and had movements.
  • Jamestown Virginia - Bacon's Rebellion

    In 1617, a group of former indentured servants were unsatisfied with the governors collecting high taxes and their policies towards the Native Americans. They rebelled agains the colony, burnt Jamestown and took most control of the colony. However, the rebellion soon faded after Bacon's death.
  • Pennsylvania - Self-Government

    Penn started the colony in 1618, beside the Mayflower Compact, his action is also an example of self-govening. Penn limited his power and selected representatives to form a elected assembly. He promised to give religion freedom and wanted to reflect citizens' will.
  • Plymouth Massachusetts - Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact was the contract that 41 male Pilgrims signed proving they agreed on having fair laws that protects the general good. This is the first example of self-governing.
  • Plymouth Massachusetts - Great Migration

    Between 1629 and 1640, more than 40,000 of English people left England to the Americas because they did not agreed on the political, economic, and religious situation back in England. They formed Massachusetts Company and was led by John Winthrop, who wanted to build a ideal Christian community.
  • Maryland - Toleration Act of 1649

    Maryland was originally the Catholics, but some protestants came and they had conflicts with the Catholics. To reduce the conflicts, the Lord Baltimore presented a bill that made it a crime to restrict Christian's religious rights. This later became known as the Toleration Act of 1649. It is the first law supporting religious tolerance passed in English colony.
  • Northern Colonies - English Bill of Rights

    In 1686 James II thought the colonies were too independent, so he established a government called Dominion of New England to limit the colonies' power. However, people didn't like it. They passed the English Bill of Rights to protect their own rights that had been taken away by English King.
  • America - Enlightenment

    Influenced by the Europeans, colonies began to value reasoning and logic. It gave people the idea of "liberty" and "equality".
  • North America - Iroquois League

    The Iroquois League was a alliance formed by the tribes in Eastern North America to protect themselves from invasion. The League helped people to became the most powerful among the Native Americans. Unlike some other tribes, they don't need to worry about resources very much. Because the place itself was rich in plants, animals, and water. The weather was not extreme too.
  • America - Great Awakening

    The Great Awakening was a religious movement occurred among many colonies. People began to realize and seek for religion. It affected the social and political life, the demand of equality to all people grew.
  • Americas/Britain/Africa - Triangular Trade

    This is a trade where Europeans took African slaves and sell them as common goods to earn money. The cycle was mainly between America, America, and Britain.
  • Boston Town - Committees of Correspondence

    The raising of tax upsets the merchants, they believed Britain had no right to raise the tax; it's unfair and hiring the business. The local leader Samuel Adams agreed with Otis that each Taxation must be permitted by the local colony. He also helped found Committees of Correspondence, ensure each committee get in touch with the local colonists. Its members shared new British laws and discuss their opinion to it.
  • Boston - Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre was a biased story, propaganda that Samuel Adams used to tell. It was about the conflict between British solider and a colonist. The British troop shoot into the crowd gathering around the fight between those two people, and killed three men.
  • Chapter 1 Modern Day Connection

    Morocco, a country with 99% of its population muslim, declared its independence. Mansa Musa's hajj spread Islam effectively. His effort in spreading Islam apparently left Africa and Middle East a large munger of Muslims. He built mosques and school for the muslims also impacting people living around them. Although he didn't convert everyone into muslim, he built an strong foundation. This introduces Islam to Africans impressively earlier than any other religion.
  • Chapter 3 Modern Day Connection

    According to a study done by Pew Research Center in 2014, there are 70.6% of adults in United States identify themselves as Christian. When the colonies first came to America, they were mostly Catholic, protestants, or other Christians who were forced to come here. They lived here and dominated the society. If the protestant reformation didn't happen, there won't be much conflicts that brought so many believers, Christians in particular in America. America might be in total different place.
  • Chapter 2 Modern Day Connection

    In July, China made a new deal with United States on rice imports. This is certainly an effect of Columbian Exchange.
    Originally, China and United States are in two different continent and so far away form each other. It seemed impossible to transport food from one side of the Earth to another, since the Americas were isolated from rest of the world.
    However, Columbus' discovery connected two hemispheres and encouraged people to have imports and outports from both side of the world.
