Then President Jefferson sent the two famous explorers, Lewis and Clark, to go inspect the new territory.

    Tariff of Abominations
President John Quincy Adams began taxing foreign goods in order to protect the northern industries from competition in the year 1828. These taxed items became more expensive as America didn't have all of the same industries as other countries. The southern states had to pay more for manufactured goods and lost money on their raw materials because other countries didn't buy as much from them.

Native Americans had lived in the U.S. before the settlers but with so many people coming from Europe they were constantly moving. Andrew Jackson passed the IRA in 1830 which meant that all American Indians had to leave. The American settlers gained land but they hurt their relationship with the N. A. The Cherokee people suffered the most and it was called the Trail of Tears because of the brutal treatment they were given.
