  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks famous response to a man wanting to take her spot on a public bus happened in 1955. Her telling a white man no, started to initiate the start of the Civil Rights movement.
  • Polio Vaccine

    Dr. Jonas Salk first started to use the polio vaccine in 1955. This made the polio cases fall from 35,000 in 1953 to 5,600 cases in less than five years.
  • Vietnam War

    The Vietnam War began in November 1, 1955 and lasted till April 30, 1975.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1957

    Eisenhower presented to congress an Act that would make sure that every American had the equal opportunity to vote and that that right could not be taken away by anyone.

    In 1958 NASA was founded by Dwight Eisenhower. This organization was made in response to the space race with the Soviet Union.

    In 1959 Alaska and Hawaii officially became apart of the United States of America. They were the 49th and 50th state.

    President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. He was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Assassination

    Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968 at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.
