    CCP defeated Kuomintang nationalists. The CCP then created the Republic of China.
  • Peace Talks Begin

    Soviet ambassador to the UN suggested a cease fire. The US agreed. Peace talks began and lasted 2 years.
  • Sarah Keys Arrested

    While traveling home to visit her family, Sarah Keys was told by a bus driver to give up her seat to a white passenger. She refused and was arrested. She spend 13 hours in jail and was fined $25 for disorderly conduct.
  • Thermonuclear Weapon

    In response to the Soviets testing an atomic weapon the US detonated the first thermonuclear weapon. The blast measured over 10 megatons.
  • Rosenburgs Executed

    Former CPUSA member Julius Rosenberg had access to classified information during WWII. He and his wife Ethel were charged with smuggling documents to the Soviets. They were tried and convicted of espionage. Both were executed.
