  • Military Draft

    Military Draft
    Ended officially on June 30th 1973. The military draft was created in order to fill in empty spots that werent supported enough voluntarily. Men ages 18-26 years of age were required to enter the "lottery". It started when FDR signed the 'Selective Training' and Service Act of 1940. The draft ended once the US armed forces moved to an all-volunteer military force.
  • Mechelen Incident

    Mechelen Incident
    A German aircraft with an officer on board crash landed in Belgium at 11:30am. German aviator major Eric Hoenmanns got lost in fog that affected his vision. He decided to go to the West, but the fuel cut out,sputtered, then stopped . He was forced to do an emergency landing and the plane was severely damaged by the time it hit the ground. The pilot survived after the landing.
  • Auschwitz Concentration and Death Camp

    Auschwitz Concentration and Death Camp
    Ended: January 27th 1945. Hitler and other Nazi's lead the concentration and death camps, bringing in Jews as prisoners and test subjects. There were two lines made for the camp and if you weren’t deemed as “helpful” (labor workers), you were killed by gas in a room.

    The first Jeep was invented
    The Jeep was made for the miltary because they needed a vehicle that was tough and fast for the army. It was made in 75 days and was created by Willys Overland, which was called the "Brand 4x4".
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Around 2,400 Americans died after Japan surprise attacked Hawaii and their naval bases, starting at 7:55am. The day was seem as "A date which will live in infamy." A day after the attack, FDR declares war on Japan.

  • Rosie The Riveter

    Rosie The Riveter
    During WW11, Naomi Parker(20 yrs old) worked in a machine shop in the Naval Air Station located in Alameda California. Not only was she doing a 'man's job", but a picture shows her working in a jumpsuit and heels with a bandana. "Rosie Riveter" was thought as an icon and seen as a feminist. Geraldine Hoff Doyle claims to be the real "Rosie Riveter" and has been recognized as her since 1990; she says it was her when she was in her 20's.
  • D Day

    D Day
    D-day started in 1944 at 06:30 with 156,000 Americans, British, and Canadian forces landing on 5 beaches(Utah,Omaha,Gold,Juno,and Sword beach) which stretched 50 miles. It was on the coast of France's Normandy Region and allies were conducted, attacking the Nazi- occupied country.

    Ended: 1991. The cold war was caused by the state of geopolitical tension after WW11.The war was between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies. The war was waged on the political,economic, and propaganda fronts. It was placed between the powers of the Eastern and Western Bloc.

    The Warsaw Pact
