    Spanish Influenza

    During the final phases of World War I, an influenza outbreak would spread worldwide. Having the blame placed on Neutral Spain, it would be known as Spanish Influenza. This disease would be costly to the World, as with all global travel because of the conflict; it spread fast. This was a respiratory illness ravaging the system. Over two years, fifty million lives would be lost. Warranting a pandemic, this experience echoes the hardships witnessed during the COVID SARS Pandemic in 2020.
  • President Woodrow Wilson Defines his 'Fourteen Points' regarding the Great War

    The United States has still been involved in The Great War for less than a year. Yet President Wilson would give a speech outlining his fourteen points. These concepts were spoken on, in the hopes to discourage any retailiation when referring to the end of the War. According to Wilson, if the world powers were not somewhat agreeable with the perpatrators, there would be an increased chance of reaction. From leinient fiancical penalties to small land concessions. Wilson hoped his plan would work.

    Change was occurring in Russia. Since the November Revolution in 1917, the Communists have been growing their influence over the population. With the former capital of Moscow representing the strength of older Russian leaders, it had the allure of the new communist government. Compared to St. Petersburg, which had become inundated with capitalism and western society. Embracing a city that succeeded because of its Russian identity is precisely what the people need.

    During this period, the British Colony of Ireland created public unrest within their nation. Being an extension of the British Empire, Irish gentlemen were conscripted to fight for the crown without fail. This would develop into a stance against the British overseers. From the Roman Catholic Church to the Irish Nationalist parties, there was support for the strikes. With the beginning in April, this protest would continue for the remaining duration of the war, sewing the seeds for Irish freedom.
  • Tornado Hits Kansas town, on schedule for 3 years counting

    A small town, Codell, Kansas, was hit with a Tornado in 1918. This was not the first or second time that this had happened. Since 1916, a tornado has gone through this town on the same date. While this may seem like a coincidence, it is not; this was an early indicator of the impending Dust Bowl. When using land and farming, it is vital to have healthy soil that is treated appropriately. When soil is used consistently and not given proper nutrients, it becomes hard to keep it.
  • Over 100 Chicago servers brought in for questioning over "Mickey Finn"

    Horror in the Windy City! The local Boys in Blue detectives department have arrested over 100 waiters in the Chicago area. This is in connection to a string of Murders in the city revolving around the use of Mickey Finn. This drug would cause the unsuspecting victim to pass out. This was aided by other chemicals that would be used to kill the victim. This concept was first done in Chicago in 1896-1903, but would see an uptick in activity in June of 1918. Suspects names to be released shortly.

    Catastrophe in Nashville, train wreck kills 101 injures almost 200 more!
    The Great train Wreck of 1918. This is considered one of the worst rail accidents in US History. This accident occurred in Nashville TN, When two trains collided head on. One was running late from Memphis, while the other was heading outbound. Becuase of this human error, both trains entered a section of single rail, and their fate was sealed. This was at a spot called "Dutchmans Curve" and both trains were going 50-60mph. This was an overall tragedy for the US and the rail system.

    Boston Wins the World Series
    During the MLB season, the Boston Red Sox, and the Chicago Cubs battled in the world series. The result would be the Red Sox winning in Game six, securing the series 4-2. This win was special for two reaons. The Red Sox had the lowest batting average of any team in the World Series, being a measly .167. Additionally, this was the last world series win the Sox would have for over 86 years. The beginning of the Red Sox woes began with the Curse of the Bambino, in the hopes they never win again.
  • The world shaken! San Fermin hit with devastating earthquake.

    Hardship in our new territory. The island of Puerto Rico was hit with a devastating earthquake today. This incident would lead to the passing of 76-116 lives, and would cost millions in damages. The Earthquake was only heightened by the imact of the subsequent tsunami that would strike. The geological force of the earthquake would generate the action in the water that would inflict destruction on the small island. The US would send limited aid, and only exempt taxes for a short time.
  • The S.S. Princess Sophia sinks after grounding on the Vanderbilt Reef

    Leaving Skagway just two days prior, the S.S. Princess Sophia would see its final voyage come to an end on October 25th 1918. After accidentally grounding on the Vanderbilt Reef in the Northwest Pacific Ocean, the Boat would suffer critical damage. Because of a snowstorm in the region, navigation was limited to calculations, leading the boat off course. With these factors against the boat, disator was emminent. 353 individuals would die aboard the boat, the distess calls were not heard.

    President Wilson Sails to Europe
    For the first time in American History, a Current US President Sailed to Europe. This was not a possibility for previous Presidents, and demonstrated increased strength of the United States. Being on the way to the Paris Peace Confrence, Woodrow Wilson was preforming a special task, seeming to be the voice of reason amidst a plethora of disgruntled Europeans. This was another significant step in the process of America becoming the dominant world superpower in the second half of the 20th century
  • The Death of the Romanov Family

    On this July day, the remaining Romanov ruling house in Russia would be killed. Even with their numerous kids, saving the children was not possible. It would be a slaughter, as the family was brought down to a basement and shot to death. While gruesome in impact, it also served as a means for the Russian commoners to come to terms with how their government treated them. From altered reforms to a system favoring the rich, killing the Romanovs became a symbol of change.
