    First Commercial Steam Boat
    Robert Fulton created the first commercial steamboat service up and down the Hudson River. He is known as the, "Father of steam navigation."

    Missouri Compromise
    Maine became a free state and Missouri became a slave state so that the U.S Senate would be divided equally between the north and the south. Slavery was also prohibited above the 36°30′ parallel except for in Missouri.

    Indians were forced out of there land and moved westward on what would later be known as the trail of tears. Many of the Indians died before making it to the end of their journey due to exposure, disease, and starvation.

    Southampton Insurrection
    Nat Turner started a slave rebellion in Southampton Virginia. Rebel slaves killed about 55-65 people. The rebellion led to widespread fear and extreme retaliation against slaves.

    Nullification Crisis

    Tariff strongly opposed the agrarian states in the south who imported many manufactured goods. Andrew Jackson was elected in the hopes that the tariffs would be removed. When they were not removed South Carolina decided that the Tariff was unconstitutional and declared the law null and void. Military force was used against South Carolina and the Compromise Tariff was created.
