    The Marbury vs. Madison affair gave the supreme court power to declare acts unconstitutional, it established the judicial review which strengthened the judicial branch, and it helped the supreme court be equal to the other 2 branches.
  • Louisiana purchase

    Louisiana purchase
    Thomas Jefferson wanted to buy New Orleans from Napolean Bonaparte for $10 million but instead Napolean sold him the entire Louisiana territory for only $15 million. The purchase nearly doubled the size of the US.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    The War of 1812 was a war with Great Britain and many events happened in the war such as Great Britain burning down the White House and the fight we had with Tecumseh in the battle of Tippecanoe and how he died in October 5, 1813.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    Treaty of Ghent
    The treaty was signed in Belgium and it ended the War of 1812. The treaty had all taken territory returned. Andrew Jackson didn't know that the treaty had been signed so he had lead a battle in New Orleans and won with only 70 of his men wounded.

    The Cumberland Road was the first road built by the federal government. It ran from Cumberland, Maryland, to Wheeling Virginia. In 1833 the road was expanded to the National Road.

    The American System was developed by Henry Clay. With it, he wanted to improve roads and canals and he pushed for a national bank. This was his plan to make the US economically self-sufficient.

    The Erie Canal ran from Albany to Buffalo, New York. It was dug out entirely by hand only using shovels. The main workers are the British, German, and Irish immigrants. The canal was completed in 1825.

  • Election of 1824

    Election of 1824
    In the Election of 1824, Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams were both running for president. Jackson had won the popularity vote but lost the electoral vote. So the House of Representatives had to make a decision and they chose Adams. Jackson's supporters said that Adams had made corrupt bargain with Henry Clay and when he chose Clay to be secretary of state the accusations grew and weakened Adams.
