1789-1840

  • Establishment of UGA

    UGA was chartered in 1785. They had found land in 1784 and also had leadership in 1786. Finally they had their first graduating class in 1804. Georgia was the oldest and largest institution. They were chartered by Georgia's General Assembly in 1785, and the other states knew how to make collages. Source: New Georgia's Encyclopedia
  • Expansion of American Slavery

    In 1790-1860 the slave population increased because the cotton gin. It was a dramatic expansion of slavery into the southern and western part of America. The expansion of American slaves impacted Georgia because they helped farmers on farms and helped with picking cotton. Source: New Georgia Studies Textbook
  • The Cotton Gin

    The cotton gin was invented in 1793. It allowed cotton seeds to be removed from the cotton fiber much quicker than it being done by hand. 1815, it became America's most important export. It impacted Georgia with making a valuable crop and it being fast and easy to make with the cotton gin. Source: New Georgia Studies Textbook
  • Yazoo Land

    The Yazoo land were giving land unfairly and people were very mad because the legislator was being bribed. This impacted Georgia because they gave up the west land and their legislator left the state. Source: New Georgia Studies Textbook
  • Land Fever in Georgia

    The head right system began in 1777. They were able to get up to 200 acers. Land lottery began in 1805. It had let veterans, or orphans get multiple chances for a drawling of land. With the land lottery it impacted Georgia because they lost 3/4 of their land, and if you didn't win land you didn't get any. So it wasn't really a good impact. Source: New Georgia Studies Textbook
  • Native American Removal-Creek

    The creek gave there land up between Ocmulgee and Flint river. Then in 1825, McIntosh was involved in the second treaty and they gave up the rest of their land. For losing their land they got $200,000. When the creek gave up their land it impacted Georgia by giving them more land to have, and not having the Native American's embarrassing them.   • Dahlonega Gold Rush

    Georgia was found in Dahlonega and rushed to settle land and get it. It impacted Georgia because the gold belonged to the natives, which had forced them off the land. Source: New Georgia Studies Textbook
  • Railroads

    In 1833, the first railroad was charted. It was in Atlanta. A business man from Athens was the one to create railroads. Railroads impacted Georgia by letting trains go on them and letting stuff be transported like cotton. Atlanta was the first major city to be built and was the top 10 for railroad track millage.
