1600-1700

  • Arrival at Cape Henry

    This was about 5 months into their journey at sea. Three of the ships that were being managed and instructed by Captain Cristopher Newport they arrived upon Cape Henry; which was located along the Virginia coast.
  • Bearing the New York Capitol

    Henry Hudson, who, at the time, was in cahoots with the Dutch, sailed into the New York harbor. Little did he know that he was sailing up the river that would later carry on his name and enter into Albany.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Rolfe

    As we know, Jamestown in a town of great historical events. One of the most memorable, however, would have to be the marriage between Jone Rolfe and Pocahontas. John Rolfe later brought tobacco sees into the colony and began the great harvest of the cash crop. Their marriage was a peacemaker between the colonists and the indians for 8 years.
  • Smallpox Wipeout

    An epidemic of Smallpox consumed roughly 90% of the Native American population in the Massachusetts Bay area. This lasted for a year.
  • The House of Burgesses

    This was the date that marked the first representative assembly, containing that House of Burgesses, which was held in the famous town of Jamestown. A month passed and the Dutch land, that enslaved indentured servants, African slaves, again in Jamestown.
  • First Permanent mission

    In, what is now, Arizona and New Mexico people from the Franciscan order came together to from the Spanish settlements in Mexico. They also put into place missions in Hopi Indian Tribe lands. This was when the 'first permanent mission', in San Bernardino, was determined at Awatobi.
  • The First of the Fleet

    On April 8, 1630 began Winthrop's 11 ship fleet. Accumulatively there were 700 passengers that would leave England for the Puritan colonies that have been previously establish in the land of Salem.
  • Legalization

    The year 1650 marks the legalization of slavery in Connecticut and the year the recognized slavery in American colonies.
