  • Sugar Act passed

    Sugar Act passed
    The first try to finance the defence of the colonies by the British Government. They started to lowering the taxes on molasses in order to reduce smuggling and raise the production of British rum. The Act established a Vice-Admiralty Court in Halifax, Nova Scotia to hear smuggling cases without jury.

    In the attempt to low down some of the costs of some spices of the colonies, Parliament demanded all legal documents, newspapers and pamphlets required to use stamped paper on which a fee was placed.

    The act forced American colonist to house and feed British forces who were serving in North America. The colonist were annoyed at having their homes forced open. The New York assembly argued that it could not be forced to achieve.

    Townshend was a series of acts passed by Parliament of Great Britain which placed taxes on tea, paper, glass and paintings. Colonial assemblies condemned taxation without representation.

  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a street fight that occurred, between a "patriot" crowd, throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks, and a squad of British soldiers. The death of some colonists gave a reason to the writers to create a campaign to wake up the anger of the the people towards he British soldiers.

  • Tea act passed

    Tea act passed
    In an effort to support the ailing East India Company, Parliament lowered the price of the tea and allowed the Company to sell its tea directly to the colonies. They did this hoping that the colonist stopped the protests.

  • Boston tea party

    Boston tea party
    British settlers in America were in disagreement with the British Parliament because even though they were not represented they had to pay high taxes. American patriots disguised as Mohawk Indians threw to the sea £9,000 of East India Company tea into the Boston harbour.

    First Continental Congress

    It was a Congress that took place in Philadelphia. Colonial delegates met to organise opposition to the Intolerable Acts. Some of them were sent tote king to ask for basic rights but the king refused.
