This was an agreement that they wouldn’t take any military action against each other. This was significant because they ended up npbrewking that.

    Operation Barbarossa was code for the Axis invasion of the Soviet Union during World War II. Adolf Hitler sent his armies eastward in a massive invasion of the Soviet Union. There was 150 divisions, three thousand tanks went through Soviet Union territory. This was a turing point of WWII because it’s failed forces Nazi Germany to fight a two front war against a coalition with superior weapons.

    Japanese Naval Air Service attacked the United States naval base in Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii. They were trying to destroy the United States important fleets. If they did that then the United States couldn’t interfere with there plans. This was significant because this cause the United States to join WWII the day after.

    At the Wannasee Conference, Nazi officials meet to discuss the details of the “Final Solution” of the “Jewish question.” In July 1941 there were orders to have “ a general plan of the administrative, material, and financial measures necessary for carrying out the desired final solution of the Jewish question.” They were also trying to fix problems so then killing wouldn’t be too time consuming. This was significant because they were trying to find easier ways to kills millions of people.

    Japanese rounded up the surrendered Filipinos and Americans, and made the, march around 65 miles. They marched from Mariveles to San Fernando. It took them around five years to complete. Thousands of people died from the cruelty of their captors. Their captors beat them and starved them. After this, America avenged them by invaded the island of Leyte. This is significant because it shows some of the examples of the cruelty in World War II.

    This battle was between the United States and Japan. The United States won and they allowed them and there allies to move into an offensive position. This is significant because this was one of the most decisive naval battles of World War II. Also, this battle brought permanent damage to Japans Navy.

    British bombers raid Hamburg, Germany, and called it Operation Gomorrah, while Americans bomb it by day in its own “Blitz Week.” Britain had suffered greatly from German bombing raids in July. The evening of July 24, British aircraft drop 2,300 tons of incendiary bombs on Hamburg in just a few hours. The explosive power was the equivalent of what German bombers had dropped on London in their five most destructive raids. Many people died. This is significant because it killed many people.

    On this day 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces were on five beaches stretching out to 50 miles on Normandy. This Invasion was one of the largest military assaults in history. This day was significant because this resulted in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control.

    Adolf Hitler tried to split the Allied powers by means of a surprise blitzkrieg through Ardennes to Antwerp. When the German drove deeper into the Ardennes to secure bridgeheads, but the Allied line took on the appearance of a large bulge. The Allied Powers won. This battle was significant because it was the deadliest battle of the war in the west. This battle ended up with over 100,000 casualties.

    During World War II, a plan called the Thunderclap Plan was created. The plan was to bomb Berlin, and would cause many casualties. The plan was never put into action.

    Allies went across Europe at the end of the Second World War, they came across concentration camps filled with sick and starving prisoners. This is significant because they liberated the concentration camps and saved those people.

    This was the day that Europe had victory in WWII. They had flags and banners out celebrating the defeat of the Nazis. This was significant, because this was the day the Germans surrendered.

    The new and insanely dangerous technology that has changed the world has been used. The atomic bomb. The atomic bombs were used in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. This is significant because it has changed technology forever and it ended World War II completely.

    This was the day that Japan had surrendered to the Allies, ending World War. When Japan’s formal surrender took place aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay. This was the end.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    The Battle of Iwo Jima was between U.S. Marines and the Imperial Army of Japan in early 1945. The island of Iwo Jima had three airfields that could serve as a staging facility for a potential invasion of mainland Japan. American forces invaded the island and it lasted for five weeks. This battle was significant because 200 or so of the 21,000 Japanese forces on the island were killed, and almost 7,000 Marines.
