  • Period: 3300 BCE to 1300

    Indus Valley Civilization

    Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro, both were the major cities of Indus Civilization also know as the Harappa Civilization. Known through the cities for their impressive, organized and regular layout. They had well laid out plumbing and drainage systems, including indoor toilets.
  • Period: 2600 BCE to 900

    Mayan Civilization

    The Mayan people never entirely disappeared, their descendants still live across Central America.
  • Period: 1600 BCE to 1046 BCE

    Shang Dynasty

    Huge Empire that rivaled the Zhou Dynasty. Ruled in the Yellow River valley and was seceded by the Zhou Dynasty. Was known for its technological advancement and sophisticated craftsmanship in bronze and ceramics.
  • Period: 1200 BCE to 400 BCE

    Olmec Civilization

    Best known today for their carved ​colossal heads, the Olmecs were an important early Mesoamerican civilization which had much influence on later cultures such as the Aztecs and the Mayans. They lived in the forests along the rivers of Mexico's east coast.
  • Period: 1046 BCE to 256 BCE

    Zhou Dynasty

    Was the longest lasting of ancient China's dynasties. Ended when the state of Qin overtook the city of Chengzhou. Their accomplishments of bronze work, military technology, including horse-drawn chariots, writing, a calendar, and religion were long lasting.
  • Period: 911 BCE to 609 BCE

    Neo-Assyrian Empire

    Was historically significant in part because it conquered Mesopotamia and much of the Near East and spread its language, such as Aramaic, and culture throughout its empire. The Chaldean dynastry also called the Neo-Babylonian Empire lasted from the rise of power of Nabopolassar in 626 BC to the invasions by Persia in 539 BC. So, the Chaldean Dynasty lasted roughly 80 years.
  • Period: 800 BCE to 600

    Greek Empire

    Had some of the best inventions in history. Had many great philosophers during the empire including Aristotle and Plato. One of the biggest rivals of Rome, they influenced many of our architectural structures.

    Persian Empire

    Fought the Athenians and the Romans during the Persian wars, in which the Persians lost all three wars. The Persians were located from Anatolia to the Indus River in Mesopotamia.
  • Period: 221 BCE to 207 BCE

    Qin Dynasty

    Was very short but had a lasting effect on the following dynasties. One of the most famous uses of labor during the Qin dynasty was the creation of thousands of terracotta warriors, and bronze chariots and horses found in the burial tomb of Qin Shihuangdi.
  • Period: 206 BCE to 220

    Han Dynasty

    Was considered the golden age of Chinese History. Was called the golden age because it was an era of peace and prosperity which allowed China to expand to a major world power. Ended in 220 when Cao Cao's son and heir, Cao Pi pressured the Emperor Xian to giving up his throne to him.
  • Period: 27 BCE to 1453

    Roman Empire

    Had a large empire that stretched as far north as Britain. Was started by Augustus Caesar not long after Julius Caesar was murdered. Also influenced some of the greatest inventions, and architecture.
