    The Royal Proclamation

    Since England controlled so much of North America,colonists headed west. When King George heard this, he said no one could move west of the Appalachian Mountain because if the colonists moved west, Britain would have to spend more money to keep people safe from American Indian attacks.The colonists were appalled ( shocked ).The king had gone to far.

    The Quartering Act

    The Colonists were forced to provide food, beds, blankets,and even whole buildings for the British soldiers.

    The Stamp Act

    King George hated losing his money and thought that the colonist should be taxed.The king declared that all paper materials in the colonies had to carry a British stamp. When colonists wanted a newspaper, a deck of cards, or even a birth certificate,he or she had to pay extra for the stamp. The colonists and others were mad about paying extra for everything they paid for and it caused riots and a lot of grumbling. King George repealed ( cancelled ) the Stamp Act in 1766.

    The Townshend Acts

    Again, the King sent soldiers to enforce acts that taxed tea, glass, paper,and lead. Colonists responded by boycotting (refusing to buy) British goods. The British was stirring up bad feelings. The colonists were mad they wanted their own country. Soon disaster struck.

    The Boston Massacre

    On one March evening, a group of angry people approached the British soldiers.They threw snowballs at the soldiers.The Redcoats fired and five died and more were wounded. Among the dead was a man named Crispus Attucks. Crispus Attucks was a African American who was considered to be the first person to die in American Revolution. The mob went crazy and Paul Revere made a copper engraving of the scene.The event became known as the Boston Massacre.

    The Tea Act

    The Tea Act was a rule: The King told them to only buy tea from the British East India CO. The Colonists liked the British tea, but not the price.

    The Boston Tea Party

    On one December night, several colonists dressed up as American Indians , snuck onto three different ships, and dumped 90,000 pounds of tea into the Boston Harbour. They destroyed the tea which told the King that they weren't going to pay taxes without representation. The King was furious.

    The Intolerable Acts

    The King was mad and shut down the Harbour for business, and he said the British soldiers that were accused of crimes should be tried to be tried in England, not in the Colonies. He also reinforced the very unpopular Quartering Acts. These commands were known as the Intolerable Acts.
