    Second Great Awakening
    This 2nd Great Awakening grew very rapidly during this time period. The 2nd Great Awakening influenced many things in American society (abolitionist movement, women's rights, and the temperance movement). It also created various large denominations in Christianity (Baptist church, Methodist church).
  • Tariff of 1828

    Tariff of 1828
    The tariff of 1828 had various names, one of them being "Tariff of Abominations".This Tariff was a significant increase tax on imports originally put in place to protect industry in the northern United States. The South hated it because it was extremely high and felt it was targeted on them. This tariff lead to increased tensions between the North and South, one of the factors of the Civil War.
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    The Trail of Tears was a devastating even in American history. The Five Civilized Native Tribes were forced to leave their land to move west of the Mississippi.This was due to the Indian Removal Act passed by Congress and signed by President Andrew Jackson. About 4,000 Natives died during this hard and long journey. This event is one of the many reasons of the tensions between America and the Natives till this day.
  • Labor Unions Legalized

    Labor Unions Legalized
    Labor Unions before 1842 were illegal in all states. Due to the Supreme Court case Commonwealth vs. Hunt labor unions were legal stating that their were honorable and peaceful. As a result, there are various labor unions in America today.
  • Seneca Falls Woman's Rights Convention

    Seneca Falls Woman's Rights Convention
    Seneca falls Woman's Rights Convention was the very 1st woman's convention. It was a convention were they discussed the condition and woman's rights in various parts of society (social, civil, religion). They meet to rewrite the Declaration of Independence to include women. Woman's Rights Conventions are still held to this day.
  • Pony Express

    Pony Express
    The Pony Express was established in 1860 that carried mail from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento , California. But, this mail service collapsed after 18 months because of lack of profit also because of other advancements (Transcontinental Telegraph).
