    From 1854-1918 Russia fought in four different wars, The Crimean War from 1856-56, The Russo-Turkish War from 1877-78, The Russo-Japanese War from 1904-05, and World War I from 1914-18. Russia suffered defeat in all of these wars except the Russo-Turkish War which caused discontent among the people of Russia, and caused suffering in the country's government and economy

    Population Boom

    In just under 30 years, Russia's population increased by 30 million which was too much for the economy to handle. The people that were impacted the most were the peasants because there wasn't enough farm land for them to use for their crops

    A drought during the early 1900's would be a major cause for later revolutions and essentially start a domino effect that would later lead to food shortages and eventually, rebellion.
  • Bloody Sunday

    On Bloody Sunday a group of protestors led by the radical priest Gregory Apollonovich Gapon marched to Czar's Winter Palace in St.Petersburg to make their demands. Imperial forces then opened fire on the protestors injuring and killing almost 500 people.

    After World War I, food in Russia became scarce and people began to get mad at the government because of this, This led to the first of the major revolutions in 1917

    The Russians fought on the side of the Allies in WWI. In the middle of the war they would end up surrendering because of the massive casualties they took. This was a major factor for the revolution that happened not long after.

    The Russian Revolution begins as rebels pour out and riot on the streets of St. Petersburg. Many of the most fierce rebellions would take place until later in 1917

    The revolutions of October 1917 were the events that ran Tsar Nicholas ii out of office. Once he was gone Vladimir Lenin took control of the country with the promise of peace and food for all.

    The war was growing too much for the civilians of the battered country of Russia. Peace was signed immediately once the Bolsheviks took control of Russia.

    Since the Bolsheviks took control Russia, it's people were better off. The governments promises of food for all were steadily being fulfilled, however this goal could only be achieved with more space to grow food and house their population. They wouldn't start this process until much later though.

    Joseph Stalin took power of the Soviet Union after Lenin's death in 1924. He would rule for much longer and solidify the fact that Russia was a Socialist nation. He had intentions of ruling the country harshly.

    The bloody battle on the city of Stalingrad began in the middle of 1942. The battle was fought on Russian territory. Many more than 2 million people died during the two year engagement.

    The Cold War started after WWII. The war was "fought" between Russia and the U.S.A. and was based purely off of fear. This fear stemmed from the fact that their governments were run very differently and that anyone who opposed their ways was a threat.

    The Vietnam War was fought on Vietnam territory by the U.S. and Russians mainly. It is another example of fear imposed by the Russians onto the U.S.. The country of Vietnam may have been rather insignificant but the U.S. thought it was necessary to fight there.
