    The Sugar Act
    The sugar act was a law passed to try and stop the illegal smuggling of sugar and molasses amongst the colonists. It was the first tax on the colonists. The colonists felt that their rights as English citizens were being violated.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The stamp act was the first direct tax forced in the British colonies in North America.The goal of having the tax on paper materials was to help finances for the British troops and to decreases debt which was very high due to The Fench and Indian war. The colonists were very angry because they had no say in the tax or how money was spent. The act was repealed in 1776 but the Revolution had already started.
  • The Townshed act

    The Townshed act
    The Townshend act was a new set of laws and taxes sent by the British Parliament. These laws slowly started taking away the colonist's freedom and rights. Taxes started on things like paper, paint, lead, glass, and tea. It was to pay for the salaries of officials like judges and governors etc. The British wanted the colonist to pay for themselves and that angered the colonists.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    It was an incident between British soldiers and a crowd of colonists. Nine British soldiers opened fire on the crowd killing five and wounding six. The commander and eight soldiers were arrested by morning. A series of pamphlets that pictured British soldiers shooting a peaceful group of colonists increased the anti-British sentiment in the colonies
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was a protest ran by the American colonists. 70 men boarded three ships and threw their cargo into the sea. This was a protest on the tea act which was passed by British Parlement that gave the British East India Company monopoly on tea sales in the colonies. was significant because it showed the British how far they would go to show they wanted freedom. This led to a chain of events that led to the American War of Independence.
  • The Quebec act

    The Quebec act
    The Quebec Act was passed by the British Parliament to install a permanent administration in Canada replacing the temporary government that had been created in1763. It gave French Canadians complete religious freedom and restored the French form of civil law. The thirteen colonies consider this one of the Intolerable Acts for it invalidated many of the western claims of the coast colonies by extending the boundaries of the Provine Quebec.

    The Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was a statement written by the founding fathers of the United States. The Declaration was to declare freedom from Britain. It was adopted by the Second Continental Congress. The colonies were determined to get their freedom from Britain, this united the colonies.
