  • Industrial Revolution

    Industrial Revolution
    in 1780's, the industrial revolution had a big impact on the sport, as no one had time to take part due to them never getting time off work to play a sport. With Britain's trade influence growing, sports were being exported with traders.
  • Agricultural Society

    This was during the Medieval and early modern Britain. At this time period, there was no leisure time and the work was physically hard and demanding. Soccer would have been a quiet sport and it wouldn't have been appealing to play as the rich wealthier people would have played tennis and hunting. It would have been the rougher people who played soccer. It was tend to be played by mobs.

    When poorer class of children were allowed to go to school to be educated, this allowed them to pursue more sporting game time because they were given the opportunity to play. This allowed soccer to grow as a sport as more people were playing it. For the wealthier children, the schools they attended were able to invest it proper playing fields. This allowed them to embrace the game more and that they had been given more time to improve their skills.

    Regulations started to take place in soccer so that everyone was following the same rules when they played. They set out how many would play in a team and how long the game would be as one school may play a 8 a side match for 60 minutes and another school could play an 11 side for 90 minutes. AT this time then clubs and leagues started to from and which this lead to everyone playing the same minutes etc.

    This allowed everyone to play a sport without being told no because of their wealth. This allowed the lower classes of people to play other sports instead of soccer or rugby. It then gave the middle class and top classes of people to play soccer as there wasn't the divide between the people who played it. This lead to the games becoming more structured and better organised. With the higher classes of people playing soccer it lead to the sport getting better equipment and surfaces.

    After the two World Wars, the technology that was used in the war was then being brought into sport. This new technology helped advance soccer to the next level. With new rules coming in after the war, this allowed players to play competitively yet safely. Soccer grew as it brought people together and it started to draw more crowds. Woman started to get more opportunities in sport after this. This then got more crowds out as there is gender equality.

    Soccer started to become a household name so with more money being invested, there was better playing conditions as there was more time to develop them as after the war the working hours decreased and this allowed people to research on how to improve the game. Games started to be televised so more people could watch them and this created an even bigger spread of interest into the game. Outdoor activities also improved as there is better transport so this allowed you to travel more.
