    Those is the field of instructional design began to implement the psychological theories that had been presented by great psychologists such as B.F. Skinner and Jean Piaget. These theories looked at how people learn from a scientific perspective and ID began to consider cognitive and behavioral processing theory in their educational programs.

    Advancements in Media Driven Instruction

    Media driven instruction moved slowly away from the previously dominant field of audiovisual instruction to educational technology. New advancements in the field of technology were being made and had a significant impact on the education system. During this time advancements in linguistics and information theory caused Id to start questioning some aspects of behavior theory and moving more towards cognitivism, sparking the idea for the artificial intelligence.

    The Personal Computer and the World Wide Web

    In the 1980's advancements in the design of the personal computer shook up educational technology. Public interest in this technology was boundless and soon computer labs were present in most school districts. During this time up though the mid 1990's schools were not using computers for much more than practice in the development of computer skills. With the evolution of the computer brought on new implementations of psychological learning theory such as constructivism.

    Advancements in Classroom Technology

    Due to advancements in computer technology as well as in the expansion of the world wide web computers took on a whole new role in the classroom. Computers were no longer pushed to the side in labs and used only for practice. They were placed in most classrooms and used daily for instruction, however due to their high cost and low school funding many schools were unable to provide more than one computer per 9 students.

    Technology Today

    There has been a rapid increase in the abilities of technology over the past decade allowing advances in educational instruction technology. In addition to technological advances, research is being done on how to improve the learning processes and environments to be more flexible and adaptable to the learner. Many higher education institutions can now offer online classes and there are even resources that offer courses for free. Technology has allowed education to be boundless.
