    Andrew Jackson's supporters in the House of Representatives Pass tariff legislation aimed at drawing mid-Atlantic voters to the coalition formed to defeat President John Quincy Adams in the upcoming election. The Senate passes the measure on 13 May. Southerners oppose the tariff package; their opposition to the measure will culminate in the nullification crisis of 1832.
