Creation and Design
Stephan Hillenburg became fascinated as a young child with the ocean which inspired the creation of the child TV show Spongebob Squarepants. During college he majored in marine biology and minored in art, after graduating in 1984 he planned to return to college later on to get a masters in art. He then joined the Ocean Institute, while Hillenburg was there he wrote his first Spongebob comic, "The Intertidal Zone" -

Patrick's emotional outbreak was originally written for season one, the episode was titled "Valentine's Day" where Spongebob and Sandy try to give Patrick a valentines day gift and "was supposed to be a one-time thing". However according to episode writer Jay Lender, "when that show came back it felt so right that his dark side started popping up everywhere. You can plan ahead all you want, but eventually the characters tell you who you are. -
Spongebob Movies
The Spongebob movie was directed, produced and written by Hillenburg. The film was promoted by Paramount and Nickelodeon. 7-Eleven, the Cayman Islands, and Burger King had tie-ins to the production. -
Sequal
The Sponge Out of Water was released Feb 6, 2015. The movie grossed $323 million worldwide against a $74 million budget. It was nominated in 2015 for The Kids' Choice Awards for best animated kids movie, but lost to Big Hero Six. It is Nickelodeon's third highest grossing movie behind The Adventure's of Tin Tin (2011) and TMNT (2014) -
About Patrick
Patrick considers Sandy, Spongebob, Mr. Krabs, and Squidward his closest friends. They all except him no matter how annoying he is which is like my friends. -
Appearance
Patrick played major roles in season one, but only 16/30 episodes. As more seasons were produced Patrick became more important to the series, and fans began to love his role in Spongebob. He also played major roles in both Spongebob movies. -
