  • William Golding is born

    William Golding is born on September 19th 1911 in saint Columb Minor Cornwall England. He was raised in a 14th century house next to a graveyard.
  • William writes his first novel

    William tried writing his first novel when he was 12. William's novel was unsuccessful which caused William to lash out and begin to bully other kids at his school. William said he would describe himself as brat, and even went as far to say " I enjoyed hurting people."
  • William goes to college

    When William turn 18 he attended Brasenose College at Oxford University. William's father try to persuade William to study science and become a scientist but he had other plans and studied English literature instead.
  • William joins the Navy

    William had to temporarily put his passion for teaching on hold so he could fight in WWII
  • During WWII

    During WWII William fought battle ships at the sinking of Bismark, he also fended off planes and submarines.

    After the war William spent the next 6 year boating in which he soon fell in love with sailing.
