    Attempts by the Carter administration to mitigate the effects of an oil embargo set by Arab oil rich nations. This act attempted to reduce our consumption of oil by 10% making us less reliant on foreign oil.
  • Camp David Accords

    Camp David Accords
    The aim of the Camp David accords was for Carter to broker peace between Arab nations and Israel. Egyptian President Anwar Sadat called for the removal of Israeli troops from the Sinai desert, the West Bank and The Gaza Strip. Israeli's newly appointed conservative prime minister, Menachem Begin, would not accept withdrawal from the West Bank and Gaza and would ultimately compromise with Sadat by removing troops from the Sinai Peninsula.

    Carter would pass the National Parks and Recreation Act of November 10, 1978. This act created an additional 15 national parks across the US. Then later The Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) of 1980 would be passed which created most of the national parks known today in Alaska.

    Carter would separate the department of health, education, and welfare and create two separate entities of government. This would be the birth of the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human services.

    Iranian Hostage Crisis
    Iranian college students would break into the US embassy and take 52 American citizens hostage for 444 days which marks the longest hostage crisis in recorded history. Carter would attempt multiple rescue attempts all being unsuccessful. Ultimately the hostages were released after the signing of the signing of the Algiers Accords on January 20, 1981.
