    This was a shaky path for Japan and the United States we both still considered each other enemies and had each killed thousands of each others men leaving the countries in turmoil. At this time it didn't seem there was any chance between the countries to become friends or allies for many many years.

    The United States and many other countries were occupying Japan from post World War II until 1952 to monitor and try and keep peace. The San Francisco Peace Treaty was signed in 1951 and went into affect on the date given. After this Japan and the U.S were again allies.

    In 1964 America championed Japan into becoming part of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). This was done in hope to get free trade with Japan due to our trade with them increasing more than ever in the years before this. American companies exported goods worth $2 billion into Japan and imported $1.8 billion from Japan. In this year trade with Japan accounted for 8.3% of foreign trade.

    The Toyota Corolla was released to the American market in 1966 and was the first mass produced car to hit U.S streets. This car ended up being one of the best selling cars of all time as one of the best gas mileage cars of its time. As of now 40,000,000 units have been sold. This has been the biggest game changing car brought to America.

    In 1973 the U.S had its first big oil crisis where oil rose from $3 a barrel to $12 overnight. This led to gas prices and fuel to be through the roof expensive almost quadrupling in price. This led many Americans to have to try and find a way to save money so many switched to Japanese cars like the Nissan Sunny and Toyota Corolla due to better gas mileage and cheap to maintain.

    In 1975 mainly due to the oil crisis in the following years and the U.S economy recovering much of the population was crossing over to Japanese cars in hope to save money. The U.S in previous years would only take 100,000 vehicles from Japan annually, in 1975 they started exporting 1,827,000 vehicles annually. Also during this time Honda and Mitsubishi started coming into America which made the market even bigger than before.

    In 1980 Japan becomes a bigger car manufacturer than America which has always been the super power of the car industry since it became a thing. This is mainly due to the 3 Japanese super powers Honda, Nissan and Toyota were all being imported into America at full affect and the U.S consumers were all over them. This did decrease jobs for Americans which is one opposition to the Japanese automotive industry.

    Luxury Models Brought to America

    Japan was lacking in the luxury market that the more upper class of Americans were in the market for and the United States was still winning in this category. So in effort to do so they came out with Infiniti, Lexus and Acura owned by Nissan, Toyota and Honda.

    The Toyota Prius came out in 1997 and was the first mass produced hybrid car. And is now the most well known hybrid car and new ones get nearly 60mpg almost twice the amount of the average vehicle.
  • Toyota Surpasses General Motors

    Toyota Surpasses General Motors
    In 2008 Toyota became the biggest automotive manufacturer overtaking General Motors which had been the biggest since cars were a thing. This really showed how big Japanese manufacturers had gotten since GM was nearly what made cars into what they are today and they were taken over.
  • Trans-Pacific Partnership

    Trans-Pacific Partnership
    The Trans-Pacific Partnership or TPP is a multi-nation partnership involving foreign trade and meant to "promote economic growth." It also is supposed to help the creation of jobs. An agreement on this deal was made in October of 2015 and its ratification will happen sometime in the next two years.
