  • First Junior College

    First Junior College
    Joliet Community College in Illinois was the first junior college in the US. They added two years to the high school curriculum and offered general and liberal arts programs. The introduction of junior colleges offered an innovative approach to accessing affordable and relevant education for those seeking to improve their employability. In the 1960s, many junior/community colleges boasted a more robust and diverse student body than universities.
  • Phoenix College Established

    Phoenix College Established
    Phoenix College was originally part of the Phoenix Union High School and Junior College District, serving more than 700 students.
  • Phoenix College Earns Accreditation

    Phoenix College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission which assures that the education a student receives meets a standard of quality determined by the organization granting the accreditation.
  • Job Training

    Job Training
    During the Great Depression, job training programs were added to community colleges to improve the unemployability of the community it serves.
  • Phoenix College Relocates

    The Work Project Administration (WPA) provided funding for the relocation and expansion of Phoenix College to its current location at 15th Ave. and Thomas Rd.
  • PC joins Maricopa Community College District

    PC joins Maricopa Community College District
    Phoenix College was the flagship school of the Maricopa Junior College District. The name changed to Maricopa Community College District to emphasize the general public and to best reflect the constituencies they serve. MCCD currently includes: Chandler-Gilbert CC, Estrella Mountain CC, Gateway CC, Glendale CC, Mesa CC, Paradise Valley CC, Phoenix College, Rio Salado College, Scottsdale CC, and South Mountain CC.
  • Higher Education Act

    HEA ensures academic quality of educational institutions and determines who can receive federal funding for students with financial need. The Higher Education Act has been revised multiple times to meet the current needs of the population.
  • PC Dental Hygiene Program Accredited by CODA

    PC Dental Hygiene Program Accredited by CODA
    PC earns accreditation from American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation. CODA performs site visits every seven years for programs that are fully operational. The purpose of CODA accreditation is to develop and implement accreditation standards that promote and monitor the continuous quality and improvement of dental education programs.

Although I was not chosen, it was an honor to be nominated as Maricopa Community College District Adjunct Faculty of the Year.
