  • Call of the Estate Generals

    Call of the Estate Generals
    Louis XVI called the Estate General together. Featuring every estate in the France together. Louis XVI then talked about the circumstances that had led to the convocation and what he expected form the Estate General.
    It is significant because this event made the Third Estate angry and wanted to take things to their own hands.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille
    The storming of the bastille started the revolution. The bastille was attacked by aggresive mobs. The third estate was given no power and they had barely any food or money.
    I think this event is important because it started the revolutionn.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    Third estate was angry because they were removed from the Estate General. They formed the National Assembly and they took over the Tennnis Court demanding certain rights from the king. They vowed that they would not seperate until the constitution of the kingdom is established.
    This is important because it signified for the first time that French citizen formally stood in position to Louis XVI.

    Declaration of the Rights of the Man
    The declaration of the rights of the men is written. It stated that all men are given equal rights under law. However, women and children were not affected by this document.
    It is important because it informs the role of the citizens and the government and further asserts that the citizens have the right to choose and form their government.
  • Women's march on Versailles

    Women's march on Versailles
    Large groups of women were angry because the government raised the price of the bread. They marched from Paris to Versailles and forced the king and queen to move back to Paris.
    This event was important because it gave confidence to the people over the king.
  • Flight to Varennes

    Flight to Varennes
    King Louis XVI and his family attempted to escape from France. They were caught at Verannes and sent back to Paris. After that, the king was forced to go on a trial.
    This event began a great fear that France was to be invaded. It also increased the chances of a civil war between monarchies and revolutionaries.
  • Execution of Louis XVI

    Execution of Louis XVI
    Louis was convicted and condemned to death by a narrow majority. He was sentenced to death because people found evidence of Louis XVI's counterrevolutionary intrigues with Austria and other foreign nations was discovered. Because of this, he was put of trial for treason by the National Convention.
    The death of Louis left France with no dictator and was later on announced to be a republic. The people have finally regained freedom.

    The Reign of Terror
    Thousands of people were sentenced to death by execution. This is caused by the conflict between the Jacobins and the Girondins.
    This event is important because it made the leader of Jacobins, Maximilien arise as the new leader of the revolutionl.
  • Execution of Robespierre

    Execution of Robespierre
    Revolutionary leaders had had enough of the Terror and turned on him and had Maximilien arrested. Maximilien Robespierre, leader of the Jacobins, is executed and the power of the Jacobins fall with him. The Girondins gain more power as a result.
    This event is important because it brought Reign of Terror to an end.
  • The Directory Overthrown

    The Directory Overthrown
    As the Directory became more and more corrupt, the military leaders of France grew in power. Napoleon overthrew the Directory. He established a new government called the Consulate.
    This event is important because this brought an official end to the French Revolution.
