First Trimester
The first 3 months into the pregnancy. -
First Month
By the end of 2 weeks, the heart has begun beating. The egg has attached itself to the lining of the uterus. The zygote is about the size of a pin head. -
Two Months
The zygote is about 1/4 inches long, and limbs and other physical features have developed. The heart has divided into right and left chambers, while veins are clearly visible. zygote changes into an embryo at the end of the eight weeks. -
Three Months
The fetus is now 1 inch long and is fully formed. They've begun kicking and swallowing. All organs and muscles have formed and are beginning to function. -
Four Months
Baby is covered with a layer of thick, downy hair called lanugo. Their heartbeat can be heard clearly. Also when the mother may feel baby's first kick. The baby is about 3 inches long now. -

Second Trimester
The fourth to sixth months into the pregnancy -
Five Months
A protective coating called vernix caseosa begins to form on baby's skin. The baby is about 6 1/2 - 7 inches long and weighs 4-5 ounces. -
Six Months
Eyebrows and eyelids are visible. The baby's lungs are filled with amniotic fluid, and they've started breathing motions. The baby can hear the mothers voice. The baby is 8-10 inches and weighs 8-12 ounces. -
Seven Months
At beginning of the 7th month the baby weighs about 1 1/2 pounds and is about 14-16 inches long. Their body is well formed. Fingernails cover the fingertips. -

Third Trimester
The last 3 months into the pregnancy -
Eight Months
The baby is gaining about half a pound per week, and the layers of fat are piling on. the baby has probably turned head down in preparation for birth. The baby weighs between 2 1/2 and 3 pounds. -
Nine Months
Baby is a hefty 5 to 6 pounds and measures between 17 and 18 inches. As they become more crowded, the mother may feel baby move around less.
