Henry clay made a compromise to ban slavery in a certain amount of states to be allowed to have slavery and some will not this dissension was made so that if there was a civil war in the future it would be evenly matched and also to calm the south. -
The election
The reason most of us think the civil war took place was because we elected Abraham Lincoln and then the south seceded.
