    Birth of Jesus

    Jesus was born to virgin Mary in Bethlehem which lies south of Jerusalem. He grew up and created his ministry after being baptized by John the prophet and traveled through Judea with 12 disciples spreading his teachings.

    Death of Jesus

    Jesus was arrested by Roman Soldiers and crucified in Jerusalem by orders of Roman Governor Pontius Pilate. Three days later his body was missing from his tomb and people claimed to have seen him. He had resurrected.

    Paul

    In the past Paul would prosecute Christians but an encounter with Jesus encourages him to convert. He then went on to write 13 of the 27 books in the New Testament and became an Apostle.

    Blamed for fire

    Christians were accused of starting a fire in Rome by Emperor Nero.

    New Testament

    After Jesus' crucifixion the new testament was written. It talks about Jesus' time on earth and his death.

    Great Prosecution

    Great Prosecution began. If you confessed to being a Christian you would be prosecuted as a result. This was under the rule of Diocletian and at the time when the imperial bureaucracies were split in two.

    Constantine

    Constantine was Emperor, declared himself a Christian and lifted the ban on Christianity in the Roman Empire that Diocletian put into place.

    The Catholic Church

    First catholic church was created and the emperor at the time, Theodosius I, made Catholicism the religion of the Roman Empire.

    Differences

    The Roman Empire had vanished and there were differences between Eastern and Western Christians.
  • 1054

    Seperation

    Roman Catholic church and Eastern Orthodox church separated due to the differences.
  • 1095

    The Crusades

    Wars between Muslims and Christians over "holy land" in Jerusalem.
