    During this time most of the chinese people were peasants, lived in poverty and life was hard for them.

    The Double Tenth was a revolution that took away the Manchy dynasty from ruling the nation
  • New Republic

    New Republic
    After the revolution, delegates from the government declared the creation of the Chinese Republic. A political exile, Dr. Sun Yixian, was declared president.
  • Yuan Shiaki

    Yuan Shiaki
    The imperial government attempted to take the control of the government again and suppress the rebellion with the help of the general Yuan Shikai.
    Yuan agreed with Sun that if he took the control of the government, the ruling of the Manchu in China would en. He became president in February.
  • Regionalism

    During the next years of Yuan's ruling the country started to divide more, there was a lack of unity. A sense of regionalism/provincialism grew all around the country.
    After Yuan dies the country officially divides in small states ruled by their own warlord.

    The May Fourth Movement was a political movement led by students against the warlords, the traditional Chinese culture and Japan. It became stronger after the hostility against China in the Versailles treaty. The movement looked for a change and what they called, the rebirth of China.
  • The CCP and the First United Front

    The CCP and the First United Front
    The CCP (Chinese Communist Party) was created, they had no real military strength. In the other hand we have the GMD, a party lead by Jiang Jieshi after the death of Sun. They were a military force.
    In 1922 the CCP and the GMD created an alliance called the First United Front in an attempt to unify China, eliminate the warlords and free themselves from the foreign nations.

    First United Front vs. Warlords
    The FUF prepared the Northern Expeditions to fought against the warlords of central and northern China. By the end of 1927 the opertion was a great success and the warlord era was over.
  • The end of the First United Front

    The end of the First United Front
    After the Northern Expedition the allaiance started to break thanks to the different ideologies. The GMD started to attack communists, they betrayed the CCP. This event is called the White Terror.
    The FUF was officially destroyed and the CCP had to scape to the mountains. The GMD declared the official government.
