  • Period: 1 CE to 2

    Month 1

    It's the size of a pin head. The egg attaches to lining of uterus. Critical stage for brain and spinal cord development. Internal organs and circulatory system begin to form. The heart begins to beat.
  • Period: 2 to 3

    Month 2

    The baby's about the size 1/4 inches long as month begins. Face, eyes, ears, and limbs take shape. Bones begin to form.
  • Period: 3 to 4

    Month 3

    The baby's about 1 inch long as month begins. Nostrils, mouth, lips, and eyelids form. Buds for all 20 baby teeth appear. Fingers and toes almost complete. All organs present but still immature.
  • Period: 4 to 5

    Month 4

    The baby's size is about 3 inches long, weighs 1 ounce as month begins. Can suck it's thumb, swallow, hiccup, and move around. Facial features become cleaner.
  • Period: 5 to 6

    Month 5

    It's about 6 1/-7 inches, weighs about 4-5 ounces as month begins. Hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows appear. Teeth continue to develop. Organs are maturing and becomes more active
  • Period: 6 to 7

    Month 6

    About 8-10 inches long, weighs about 8-12 ounces as month begins. Fat deposits under skin, but fetus appears wrinkled. Breathing movements begin.

    The baby's about 10-12 inches long, and weighs about 1 1/2-2 pounds as month begins. Has periods of activity followed by periods of rest and quiet
  • Period: 8 to 9

    Month 8

    The baby's about 12-16 inches long, weighs about 2 1/2-3 pounds as month begins. Rapid weight gain continues. May react to loud noises with a reflex jerking action. Moves into a head-down position.
  • Period: 9 to 10

    Month 9

    It's about 17-18 inches long, weighs about 5-6 pounds as month begins. Descends into pelvis ready for birth.
