  • Japan Invades Manchuria

    When Japan invaded Manchuria it started Japanese aggression against China and Indochina. Japan intended to create a Japanese sphere of economic domination, trying to solve economic problems through expansion. This is important to US history because it was an attempt to solve economic problems through expansion.
  • Munich Pact

    The Munich Pact is when Britain and France agreed to allow Hitler to take more land. For this Hitler's agreement to seek no more territory after the concession, eventually leading to him breaking the pact no less than 6 months later. This is important to US history because it ended the European policy of appeasement
  • Kristallnacht

    Kristallnacht happened from November 9 to November 10, 1938. It is referred to as the "night of broken glass." The Nazis in Germany torched synagogues, vandalized Jewish homes, schools, and businesses, and killed close to 100 Jews. This is important to US history because it led to the Nuremberg Laws.
  • Neutrality Acts of 1939

    The Neutrality Acta of 1939 also referred to as Cash and Carry allowed nations at war to buy goods from the US if they paid cash upfront and carried the merchandise on their own ships. This is important to US history because companies were still able to have access to products.
  • Germany Invades Poland

    The reason Germany invaded Poland is that Hitler broke the Munich Pact by invading Czechoslovakia. This is important to US history because it leads to France and Britain declaring war on Germany.
  • Lend-Lease Act

    The Lend-Lease Act also referred to as March 1941, where Congress authorizes Roosevelt to "sell, transfer title to, exchange, lease, lend or dispose to any government and defence article." He thought that this was necessary for the interest of the defence of the US. This is important to US history because it helps the process from peacetime to wartime economy.
  • Atlantic Charter

    The Atlantic Charter was signed by FDR and British Prime Minister Churchill. This led to a board statement of US and British war aims. This is important to US history because it endorsed self-determination and an international system of general security.
  • Executive Order 8022

    Executive Order 8022 prohibited ethnic or racial discrimination in the national defense industry. This is important to US history because this was the result of Randolph threatening to organize a march on Washington.
  • Atlantic Conference

    The Atlantic Conference was with FDR and Churchill. Their alliance strengthened between the US and Great Britain by signing the Atlantic Charter. This is important to US history because it helped strategize plans for after the war.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor.

    The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack launched by the Japanese against Pearl Harbor naval base and nearby airfields. This caused Japan to attack in response to US embargoes. This is important to US history because it lead to Germany declaring war on the US.
  • Executive Order 9066

    Executive Order 9066 authorized the internment of Americans of Japanese descent and resident aliens from Japan which FDR issued. This is important to US history because it led to the Supreme Court upholding the Japanese internment as Constitutional.
  • Battle of Midway

    The Battle of Midway used the US strategy which is island hopping to lead to their victory. When they got close enough to the Japanese home islands to launch an air attack in preparation for the invasion. This is important to US history because it lead to the Japanese showing they were that they would not give in to the fight. This lasted from June 4, 1942, to June 7, 1942.
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch where the invasion of North Africa launched to free the Mediterranean Sea from German control and protect the oil fields in the Middle East. This is important to US history because it took the pressure off the USSR. This went from November 8, 1942, to May 13, 1943
  • Invasion of Normandy

    The Invasion of Normandy on D-Day finally provided a long-awaited Western front. This is important to US history because it leads to Germany now being engaged on 3 fronts.
  • Battle of Bulge

    The Battle of Bulge was the last German offense and the beginning of the end for the Nazis. This is important to US history because it leads to the post-war division of Berlin and Germany including Cold War tension. This lasted from December 16, 1944, to January 25, 1945.
  • Korematsu v. United States

    Korematsu V. United States was Korematsu's case he took to the Supreme Court. He argued that internment violated his Constitutional rights, he lost. This is important to US history because the Supreme Court kept it as constitutional.
  • Yalta Conference

    The Yalta Conference was between the Big Three, Churchill, FDR, and Stalin. They help a conference for the final plans for the defeat of Europe and began a discussion of post-war European Plans. This is important to US history because it helped strategize after war plans.
  • United Nations are Created

    The creation of the United Nations where the US played a key role in helping organize and start it is an intergovernmental organization tasked to promote international cooperation. This group is also used to create and maintain international order. This is important to US history because the idea was based on the past League of Nations.
  • Nuremberg Trials

    The Nuremberg War Crimes Trials took place from November 20, 1945, to October 1, 1946. Nazi Officers and civilians were charged with crimes against humanity, were 12 Nazis were convicted and sentenced to death. This is important to US history because it established a precedent where everyone was not responsible for their own crimes and so on.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki

    After the Yalta Conference, the bombing of Hiroshima (8/6/1945) and Nagasaki (8/9/1945) was dropped by Truman. He did this to prevent the necessity for landing and fighting on the Japanese home islands. This is important to US history because it causes the Japanese to surrender.
  • Truman Doctrine

    The Truman Doctrine pledged to contain communism in Europe. They applied when the US supplied military and financial aid to Greece and Turkey. This is important to US history because it led to the Marshall Plan.
  • Marshall Plan

    When the US offered financial aid it is called the Marshall Plan. This promoted economic rebuilding and prevented the fall of European countries to communism. This is important to US history because it was proposed by Sec. of State George Marshall.
  • Israel is established

    On May 14, 1948, Israel is established because the US supported the self-determination of the Jewish people with the creation of the Jewish state of Israel. This is important to US history because it demonstrated the impact of German war crimes on the conscience of the US and the world.
  • Berlin Airlift

    When the wall was beginning to be built the US won the first Cold War confrontation with Berlin Airlift. The Berlin Airlift is when the US supplied the people of Berlin with food, water, and other supplies via airdrops.
  • US establishes NATO

    When the US established NATO it was to create a military alliance aimed at the Soviet Union for increased Cold War fears. This is important to US history because it leads to the nuclear arms race.
  • Soviet Union tests Atomic Bomb

    The Soviet Union tested an atomic bomb it led the US to accelerate the development of the hydrogen bomb and this began a nuclear arms race. This is important to US history because it showed China would back the US.
  • Korean Conflict (War)

    The Korean War was between the 38th parallel where North Korea attacked South Korea. This is important to US history because it leads to a victory for containment.
  • Soviet Union launches Sputnik

    When the space race took off the Soviet Union launched Sputnik. This resulted in US Congress passing the National Defense Education Act. This is important to US history because it promoted science and math skills.
  • National Defense Education Act (also in 7.6)

    The National Defence Education act promoted science and math skills, counteracted the fear that consumerism had made Americans less competitive and less likely to win the arms race. This is important to US history because it pushed for more learning in schools.
  • Rise of the Berlin Wall

    The Rise of the Berlin Wall became a symbol of the Cold War which separated the East and West Germany and keep people of the Eastern Bloc from escaping to freedom in the West through Berlin in the year 1962. This is important to US history because people do not agree with this and started to cause riots.
  • Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

    To prop up a friendly government the Soviet Union invaded Afganistan on December 24, 2979. The US supported the Afghan resistance movement only because of the containment policy. This is important to US history because it led to the Soviets withdrawing in 1989.
  • Fall of Berlin Wall

    When the people rioted and stood up for their rights it resulted in the fall of the wall. This is also considered the end of the Cold War. This is important to US history because it was the end of the Cold War.
