Short for Victory in Europe Day, VE day was the day that Germany finally surrendered. -

This successful testing brings in a new age of technology in the United States. It also allows us to force the Japanese into surrendering. -
Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Towards the end of the war the U.S. wanted to end the war in the Pacific in Japan and decided to drop an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. After the Japanese still didn't surrender and so the U.S. dropped another atomic bomb on Nagasaki 3 days later. -
Japanese Surrender
Shortly after the droppings of the nuclear bombs Japan is forced to surrender. This is the official end of World War II for America.
